Quite alot of buses arriving by the looks of it.... are they for Metro replacement/School services and will they replace all of the Omnidekka's and Ex London Duel door?
Ooo Friend, Bus Friend.
RE: Go North East - Secondhand Deckers 2022
It will be interesting about where these 60 odd vehciles will go to, I'd imagine Riverside/Consett & Deptford will be where most are based, with Washington presumably being rammed due to the increase in servcies

RE: Go North East - Secondhand Deckers 2022
To be honest I think due to Covid, there hasn't been a need for a fourth DFDS decker since 6145 decided to go out in a blaze of glory. But quite possible some of these second hand vehicles coming maybe replacements for the DFDS Omnidekkas, those 4 ex EYMS B9TLs kind of match the numbers up nicely if they decided to go back to having for vehicles for DFDS (maybe the contract states that they have to have 4 buses painted).

At one point they had 10 buses dedicated to ferry work consisiting of.....
Leyland Atlantean / ECW - 3538/3540
Leyland Olympian / ECW - 3674 / 3744
Volvo Olympian / N-C Palatine 2 - 3832 / 3833
Dennis Trident / ELC Lolyne - 3866 / 3867
Dennis Trident / Plaxton President - 3890 / 3891
All except the Atlanteans were in the white and blue DFDS livery. The Atlanteans were in Coastline Livery with writing above the lower deck windows advertising that they were ferry shuttle buses.

It then dropped to 6 being 3832/3833, 3866/3867, 3890/3891.

Then the DFDS went for a refresh where it dropped to 4 branded vehicles being 3866/3867 and 3890/3891.

The number of branded vehicles did increase during the swap over between Tridents and the allocation of Omnidekkas 6144/6145/6147/6148. Though the Tridents weren't all replaced at the same time with 3866/3867 coming off first, and 3890/3891 a few months later.

Then it dropped to the current 3 with the demise of 6145.

As for GNE reusing fleetnumbers, it usually tends to be fleetnumbers in the 9xxx series that have been reused but I think they may have been on or two odd exceptions over the years, as per your example, though I don't think 3995/6 actually saw use with their originally allocated numbers. Mind plenty of vehicles have been renumbered over the years.

Has GNE always had the contract to operate the DFDS 327 service?

Since before it was even called GNE if I recall correctly. Northern operated it, and possibly TWPTE before then.

There is a photo somewhere of a lineup of Northern general buses at the DFDS quay taken late 60s early 70s

Didn't twpte have those extra long Bristol VR for that service?

I also seem to recall MVK501R had PTE lively with blue stripes through which I thought was for this service?

I think MVK500-5R all did, and they were staffed by Northern drivers and kept at Percy Main.

There were more ferries back then too.

Granted the routes changed nearly as often as a GNE service in the North Sunderland Estates, but there were regular ferries to Norway (various Norwegian companies operated this one until DFDS ended up with it.), Sweden, Denmark and Germany during the 70s and 80s.
Appreciate they weren't all daily, but assuming two were docked at one time...

Even in to the 2000's, there was Sweden, Norway and Holland.

Not sure if they still do, but I know there were Dutch travel agents working to sell tickets for Newcastle and Sunderland games.
Norwegian operators organised trips to the Metrocentre and Newcastle too.

pre covid you did get charter flights into Newcastle from the Faroes, Denmark and Sweden, not sure if they’ll be back this year
Wistfully stuck in the 90s

RE: Go North East - Secondhand Deckers 2022
IIRC the NCN-L buses were converted around the mid 80s to replace the MVK-Rs due to the upcoming deregulation. They NCN-L were replaced by various MCW bodied Leyland Atlanteans around 1992 before they were replaced by ECW Atlanteans 3538/3540, then around 1999 the fleet started to be boosted with vehicles in full DFDS colours.

As mentioned ex Ribble Bristol VRLs were used, owned by the PTE but staffed by Northern drivers.

Examples of vehicles below....
Bristol VRL / ECW - OCK67K - https://www.flickr.com/photos/30794964@N03/8539043756 - Photo by John Evans
Leyland Atlantean / Alexander - MVK505R & MVK500R - https://www.flickr.com/photos/131962719@N04/18314175921 - Photo by Ken Weaver
Leyland Atlantean / ECW - NCN104L (in the yellow and white Northern version of livery) - https://www.flickr.com/photos/busfreakbrian/18178072816 - Photo by Brian H
Leyland Atlantean / ECW - NCN111L (in the red and white Go-Ahead Northern version of the livery) - https://www.flickr.com/photos/henry_patt...9887227551
Leyland Atlantean / MCW - VFT200T (in the red and white Go-Ahead Northern version of the livery with the all white GAN fleetname) - https://www.flickr.com/photos/nedbasher/5694022761 - Photo by Ned Basher
Leyland Atlantean / MCW - VFT185T (in Coastline livery no branding think the ferry companies were in the middle of takeovers) - https://www.flickr.com/photos/solenteer/52094307523 - Photo by Solenteer
Leyland Atlantean / ECW - MBR438T (Coastline livery with Go Coastline Fleetnames and minimal branding, they did originally have Coastline fleetnames) - https://www.flickr.com/photos/thetranspo...2056152913 - Photo by Ernie Robson

Then from as mentioned in 1999/2000 the livery changed to one that was basically a giant advert for DFDS Seaways which to be fair suited the buses. (All photos by me)
Leyland Olympian / ECW - B744GCN - https://www.flickr.com/photos/gjm-photog...3804461055
Volvo Olympian / N-C Palatine 2 - S832OFT - https://www.flickr.com/photos/gjm-photog...1930548033
Dennis Trident / ELC Lolyne - W177SCU - https://www.flickr.com/photos/gjm-photog...0503745722
Dennis Trident / Plaxton President - NK51UCT & NK51UCU - https://www.flickr.com/photos/gjm-photog...1150636104 (This was when some buses went to Metrocentre for the shoppers)

The two tone Blue and White livery was phased out on the low floor fleet (the Volvo Olympian retained it until they became Yellow Bus / Red Spare) for a more advertisment based liveries which I shall use W866PNL as an example showing the different versions it carried, each vehicle has a unique advert to it I think.

The first one was terrible one which basically covered up all the windows on the side as shown here - https://www.flickr.com/photos/gjm-photog...8736088690

The Second Version was a vast improved which allowed those towards the front of the bus to see out of the windows clearly - https://www.flickr.com/photos/gjm-photog...1149060761

Version three was similar to the second version but they added colour to the advert - https://www.flickr.com/photos/gjm-photog...1149286938

Then there is version 4 which meant each bus was white below the downstairs windows and a different colour top - https://www.flickr.com/photos/gjm-photog...5675454157

The Tridents were eventually all replaced with the Omnidekkas leading to Version 5 of the livery using the same base design as version 4 but with different advert graphics as shown by 6145 (524FUP) - https://www.flickr.com/photos/gjm-photog...1174209678

Though I imagine many of the younger enthusiasts on here remember the last 3 versions at least.

RE: Go North East - Secondhand Deckers 2022
The branded MCW Atlantans in the 1990s were 3685 and 3700. I remember being desperate to ride on them when I was younger but they never did anything else after being branded.

They eventually transferred to OK at Team Valley when the route was briefly operated from there. OK did my scholars bus at the time which meant I did eventually get to ride on both on my way to school.

They both wore the livery in the photo you shared of 3700, then standard Coastline livery and finally standard OK Travel livery.

When OK Tavel ran it, all sorts of deckers covered the extra runs on the 327. This photo shows one of the weirdest. Check out the caption.

I would assume (given ex-GNW MX57HDZ and MX07BUV have turned up at GNE recently) that the gaps will be:

From Go North West (New to First Manchester)
Volvo B9TL - Wright Eclipse Gemini 1
6183 - MX07BRF

6185 - MX07BRZ

6192 - MX57HDZ (correct number, see above post)
6193 - MX07BUU
6194 - MX07BUV

However, this still leaves a significant gap of 6194-6225 so there must be more to come that hasn't been noted yet.
RE: Go North East - Secondhand Deckers 2022
Go-Ahead London Central have a number of BYD Alexander Dennis Enviro 400EV's entering service on the 132 (North Greenwich - Bexleyheath Shopping Centre) which was allocated Volvo B9TL Wright Gemini 2's so i'd imagine we'll see more coming from them in the coming weeks.
