I was literally gonna ask about 6188.

Do you know what refurb they're having by any chance Dan?

Full repaint externally.

Internally: seat re-trim, seat backs repainted, handpoles powder coated, purple/lilac walls and fixtures and fittings painted/vinyled and centre of aisle floor covering replaced.

6184, 6185 and 6191 done now and pretty unrecognisable as a bus which was new to First.

What about the 08 EYMS Gemini's?

I must say I wish GNE did this more with spare buses, 5498 is a perfect example of interior advertising that I wish GNE would use more, it would be great in 6099/6100/6087 etc

Did they have NSAs already or is that yet to be fitted?

These aren’t getting NSAs fitted (yet).

Of course there may be surplus kit from Citaros etc being withdrawn, so their day may come!

Will these be allocated to a certain route(s) or are they for contracts?, if so what will they replace?

If they are Euro6 I think the 57 would be a nice fit for them or be sent to various depot as actual spares so that X1's aren't being put on 58, CityRiders aren't being put on schools routes meaning that the 56 gets solos!

They’re all predominantly on scholars at the moment although Riverside has been allocating 6185 to Volvo B9 services regularly.

There’s a few at coach and bus world blackburn

I just noticed on one of the ex-EY B9s the doors are different sized, with the front door being wider.

Do they normally just open the one larger door, or are were the doors just broken (not uncommon!)

All Versas & Optare doors are different size (right one bigger than left one). pretty sure the Mercedes have that slightly atleast 08/58 plate ones

I don't think the difference in size is that big though. Although I didn't get a proper look at the B9

It’s a standard East Yorkshire thing on a lot of their older buses - the leaf of the doors can be opened separately on a lot of their buses.

The front leaf is wider so when they are used on scholars services it would force students to go in single file and not barge on the bus all at once.

The old ECW Atlanteans that came from the PTE back in the early 90s had this system on the doors too
RE: Go North East - Secondhand Deckers 2022
Do those old East Yorkshire deckers even have heating, I got it from Newcastle on the 684 the other day, it had been in service for like 3/3.5h and honestly It was so cold, probably the 3/4th coldest bus Ive ever been on.

The other contender for 3/4 was an X10 I got from Newcastle, went upstairs, and all 6 windows were open (Enviro 400), I ran down the bus and shut them all straight away but when I got on it was absolutely freezing.

Interesting.

Do you have a top 5 warmest?

1 - X45 (Streetdeck) - During the massive heatwave.
2 - 60 - It was so warm, no windows open, I thought I was going to be sick
3 - 60
4 - I was on an Optare Versa, sat near the back and as the heat comes from the back I was really warm then.
5 - X20 -5333
One thing I will say about the Citaros & Wright Solars is that they were also nice and warm, it seems like these days GNE drivers don't know how to turn on the heaters as every time I reach up to see if they're blowing hot air, it's either cold or non-existent don't even get me started on the Enviro 400MMC's.

I will say one time I got a bus from Consett when it was like -1 after the bus had been parked up for like 3h and that was freezing as well and still the AC vents at the front were still blowing with all their might like usual, got I hate those things.

Bar a small handful of vehicle types (Optare Solo's spring to mind), I don't think drivers have any control over passenger saloon heating.

In terms of MMCs, I find it interesting that your experiences on them are constantly cold. I commute to work on a route that primarily uses E400 MMCs and, bar one or two, they're always warm - most days I need to take my coat off. They're never as obnoxiously warm as some older deckers, but I don't believe they're meant to be, I'm sure the heating is controlled by a thermostat so it'll turn off before it starts to boil everyone onboard.

Note on the vents at the front, unless the bus is fitted with an air conditioning unit, the air coming through won't be air conditioned.

What's the classic E400 bodies like in winter at Arriva Northumbria? I only ask as the 15 plate examples at Darlington seem to get colder every winter especially on the top deck, dread having to use them at this time of year and have complained about this to Arriva previously but nothing was done (last year one example was made worse by blocks being installed on all bar one of the top deck windows as a COVID measure, could really feel the cold on windy/icy days).
RE: Go North East - Secondhand Deckers 2022
I'd personally rather have an ice cold bus than a red hot bus, even in the winter.
There's absolutely nothing worse than getting on a bus when it it's freezing outside and they've got the heating on full blast.
