Arriva North East: Latest News & Discussion - March 2014

Even worse when he's wrong to boot!

The summer peak timetable will not operate at Easter, Arriva have already confirmed that.

I believe a new timetable is being put together for the summer and rumour has it that extra resource is planned.

If it is to start at the end of May, there is still around two weeks before any service registration needs to go in, so we may not see anything yet.

Not that I mean to nit pick....

(16 Mar 2014, 8:11 pm)Robert wrote My message to people moaning about the E400s:

As I have said on another thread, its not a fact that they are unreliable. Its just the buses aren't designed for the routes which is arrivas fault for putting them on there in the first place.

Everything has its limits. We can only run so far before getting tired. A bus that is more City designed would go onto City routes. Not long distance ones like the X93. The X93 is also quite hilly along the moors road which wont help either.

That's what I say about them. Very good for town and city operations like the 62 and 63 but anything else such as the X21 / X22 and they're not suited for the purpose. Although the B9TL is a good bus, it struggles with low gearing ratios on the A19 at high speed and breaks down every now and then. If the order on paper goes ahead, then they'll do well on the X18 due to the high speeds not being as continuous as the TTX. But if the order was for the X15, then they could potentially struggle and break down every now and then due to continuous high speed and low gearing ratios.
RE: Arriva North East - Latest
The B9TL is available with a choice of three axle ratios and a choice of direct top, overdrive and double overdrive transmissions.

This should give adequate performance spread for city or express usage.

As has been stated, correct specification would avoid stress.

Edited to add:- similar options should be available on the e400, however a less-powerful engine might limit the performance - depends on passenger capacity of course.

My point exactly. Not all buses are designed for long distance routes like the X93 and even Go North Easts X7 and because E400s cant cope with the long distance route and the Renowns couldn't on the X7 they are getting a load of negative comments when actually, they are good, reliable buses.

Unidentified decker seen at Hadricks Mill roundabout this afternoon no fleet numbers or branding destination blind showed "Thornton Bros"
it was heading in the direction of Jesmond

(16 Mar 2014, 6:59 pm)tyresmoke wrote There are a number of "timetable constraints" which should hopefully be sorted for the 2014 season too, it will be interesting to see what the final timetable looks like. Everyone seems to think the heaviest loadings are out of Middlesbrough, and while this is true in part, there are some major issues between Whitby and Scarborough too. This saw at least one journey having to be duplicated last summer I understand because an E400 wasn't big enough to carry everyone! Obviously the issues with the E400s exacerbated the loading issues somewhat.

Yes, its probably because the previous journey(s) failed to operate, as on one of the days I was there!

Also the service now has decent new buses with Wi-Fi and plug sockets, where before the service had horrid old Darts that frequently broke down and the space between the seats were practically non existent.

Buses that are now at Redcar!

Thought there was something funny going on when they brought out an X93 leaflet with only the winter service on! Some people said it was just to avoid confusion between summer and winter times.
RE: Arriva North East - Latest
Southbound Sapphire (service 7) at croxdale 5.05pm.Passengers standing no seats remaining....Surely deckers could be used at peaktimes!
RE: Arriva North East - Latest
Any idea when the B7TL's will be in Service on the X93, Was thinking about doing a trip upto Middlesbrough a Week on Saturday to catch them, along with the WTX Citaros and Levan Valley's Recent Arrivals/Repaints.

I understand it is being looked at. Quite impressive some of the loadings especially at college times with the ones that start at New College for example.

Well, its about time!

There's been problems with capacity for years at peak times.

Would have helped if the Sapphire Pulsars had the usual seat layout.
RE: Arriva North East - Latest
I wouldn't rush to travel on the B7TL's from Redcar? They seem content to let them reside in the Dormanstown compound with all the other cripples whilst we have to put up with the likes of 4080 on the X93! Interesting also that E400 7501 has made it back to Rescar? Hopefully that's not going to make it onto the X93 diagrams; best keep it local where it can be towed back.

It interests me as to the route change for the 2 and 4. I can't see an alternative route for them both, unless it's just bus stop changes?

Thanks, wasn't sure on fleet numbers. So I'm guessing the rest of the fleet will be transferred soon? Where will the buses go?
