Go North East: Latest News & Discussion - November 2014

RE: Go North East - Latest
Primarily affecting the x1, the road between Shiney Row and Herrington Burn is closed and has been for a while.

Local rumour states a suspect package. The sight of gas vans indicate otherwise.

Returning to school today has actually put me in a much better mood to what I've been in the past few days, so I'll let bygones be bygones. May this post serve as a polite reminder that we should all be using self-moderation on this forum. If you wouldn't like someone to make a remark about you on the public domain, don't do it yourself. I'm not religious myself, but I know that some members of this forum are, and one section of the Bible will always stick with me: Matthew 22:34-40 (if unfamiliar, it may be an idea that you Google it).

On-topic, in relation to the quoted section in bold font: Hadn't expected that - I had thought that 3962/65 would become the new K2/K3VOY. Obviously these plates will be held on retention and re-allocated too, presumably to two other Wright Eclipse Gemini bodied Volvo B7TLs.

Following an engine bay fire at Gateshead Transport Interchange in May earlier this year, Scania L94UB/Wright Solar 4949 (NK51 OLP) was temporarily withdrawn. The vehicle was repaired (being upgraded to 'Euro 5' status in the process), then subsequently repainted and re-branded. It has been undergoing a number of additional repairs over the two to three weeks, and it has now entered service at Riverside once again. Today, it has been allocated to the "The Highwayman" services.

In addition, Deptford-based "Silver Arrows" branded Mercedes Citaro 0530N/Mercedes Citaro 5320 (NK58 DVW) has now arrived at Saltmeadows for repaint. Despite being repainted just two over years ago, the vehicle is undergoing yet another repaint into a silver base livery (ie it will remain allocated to the "Silver Arrows" services). It has previously been discussed that some of the paint had once again 'bubbled' slightly around the wheel arches, and also that some of the wing mirrors on the Mercedes Citaros in the fleet had been knocked and replaced with wrongly coloured wing mirrors. In theory, repainting these vehicles two years earlier than planned should allow the presentation of the vehicles to be a bit better. This also serves as confirmation that the "Silver Arrows" services will not form a part of this year's investment plan.

They're jumping the gun a bit as 7104 was still wearing 574CPT as of an hour ago, it's on 380s today.

Doubt Go North East would replace and repaint Vehicles almost a Year after they entered service, despite how awful they might be, and if they did I would doubt they'd be New Vehicles, although it could be coincidence, the Silver Arrows has the same PVR as the Drifter of 8 Vehicles, But as Dan said they are getting another Silver Repaint due the Paint Bubbling around the Wheel Arches, to be honest other than than various coloured Wing Mirror which the Silver Arrows Mercs have, I don't think they need a Repaint as they look alright to me compared to the Crusader Examples which are Disgusting.
RE: Go North East - Latest
As with "Crusader Examples which are Disgusting". The old example with red, black & yellow colours was at first horrible but I did like it and it standout better. I do wish the next repaint would be to bring back VFM livery as new Crusader.

It's not the bus which is at fault - it's just the Hanover destination display. It has worsened since last Sunday, it would seem...

'Northern' identity is being phased out, as it's seen as being the past. For the same reason, I can't see them bringing back 'VFM' or any other past identity, unless it opens up opportunities in a new area, a bit like 'OK Motor Services' in Bishop.

Just seen a conversation on the GNE twitter feed, that made me sick a little in my mouth.

Currently unintentionally participating in a world record attempt on the 34 for the "most people on a bus ever"
@gonortheast cheers.
@cfindlay1996 Sorry, do you feel the bus is over the stated capacity?
@gonortheast put it this way, I was in a scenario where I could smell a man's genitals through his slacks. #Sardines
@cfindlay1996 That sounds rather unpleasant! Which specific 34 was this?

There's always one whenever I'm on a bus. Always tends to want to sit in the row in front of or behind me too!

It's interesting, because the conditions state: "We reserve the right to refuse entry and travel of any person onto our buses and coaches if that person is considered to be undesirable, a security or safety risk, with a poor level of personal hygiene, who is intoxicated, under the influence of drugs or other substances or who may otherwise cause a nuisance or disturbance.". I've never seen it enforced like, and I've seen plenty of people that off their face they can barely stand up, yet are allowed travel.

Do you think that people can detect their own body odours?

I mention this because, when I was a pre-school child, I would often accompany my father (the man from the Prudential) as he went around collecting the insurance premiums from people's houses.
Each house had its own 'smell' - not necessarily unpleasant - and as a young child I was aware of the differences.

As many houses that we visited were farms, inevitably some had animal smells - or simply from the wood or peat that was being burned in the range (I'm talking late 1940s north Tyne here).

I have an acquaintance (a single man now living alone since his mother died) who does have a strong 'unpleasant' smell when I travel with him on the bus (though I don't have the guts to tell him that he should do something about it).

I think some people can, and I think others can't. I know if I've been climbing about at work I feel minging when I get in, and the first thing I need to do is have a shower to freshen up. Yet I know others that'll do the same climbing about, and come in work the next day with the sweat-ridden same clothes on.

Even if you can't detect your own body odour, maintaining a sensible level of personal hygiene, and wearing fresh clothes, will prevent others from detecting it for you.

Venture 645 NL62 XZS Destination Display + Condensation (All/ some Venture Solo)
For a while now, Venture Solo NL63 XZS (645) Display is darkened from the centre to nearside (as if privacy glass / dark film shading that half of screen)

Also noticed on wet/humid days the whole display is distorted by condensation on new Venture Solo SR s. Is this apparent fault known to GNE
