Whacking the seats was my game back in the day, and something I've complained about myself in the past (to both Go North East and Arriva North East). Truth is that it's a widespread issue across the industry rather than a problem specific to one company, and it's the reason why bus operators are moving across to e-leather seating from fabric seating. Stagecoach's 'bench-style' seating on the MAN ALX300s used to be really bad for it, but it's not as much of an issue with the Lazzerini seating... Whether that's down to more vigorous cleaning or that type of seating not accumulating as much dirt, I do not know.
Personally, I'd prefer to sit on a more comfortable fabric seat (that has dirt and dust underneath that cannot be seen unless whacked) than an e-leather seat which isn't particularly comfortable.
