(21 Oct 2015, 8:23 am)Transbus574 wrote As far as I'm aware they are only allocated to scholars then they sit spare in the depot and a couple at gateshead until needed on service work to cover breakdowns etc

One running board on services 64/64A and 95/96 is covered by a dual-door Volvo B7TL at the moment and all others are on scholars (some of which do interwork with some 'normal' services). Two Volvo B7TLs are parked up at Gateshead Interchange during the day, in between scholars.

It won't be on services X9/X10 this afternoon.

The more aged folks (and also some younguns!) at shields have difficulty distinguishing between a blue/purple bus showing "Durham" as the destination, when there's also a similarly coloured number (which can be easily transposed in some peoples minds...)

Perhaps moreso when it's a red spares allocation?

The vehicles with a colour route number (excluding Quaylink) all show white route numbers now opposed to something with a colour background. This is to provide consistency with the new vehicles in the fleet which only have white LED displays, and also means that the route numbers can be larger than normal with a colour square behind it.

The colour route numbers are also more difficult to read from a distance, especially at night, when there's a coloured square behind the number. I guess if passengers find it difficult to distinguish between the colour of the buses, they'll find it equally as difficult to distinguish between colours on the destination display too.
