If they were interworking with another service it might have made sense but this change basically means they use the same number of buses on the service, but cut the passengers choice in half. Now Brunswick/Wideopen passengers can only use 45 and Hazlerigg the 44 whereas in the past they could use either. Now they could face up to an hour wait.
Interestingly, after brining this up with Arriva, their commercial department said "If there is an opportunity in the future for services 44 and 45 to revert to the 'loop' arrangement in the evening and on Sundays we will implement this change".
