I do think it appeals to a certain demographic though. Just as uber does.
Can't see it taking off just yet. The nexus backed Dial-a-ride type services didn't really do much and they were targeted at the older generation.
Maybe the combustion engine is reaching the end of its life, maybe hydrogen power and electric power will dominate soon. France currently has a scheme to buy cheap electric cars (they imposed a tax on petrol, it averages 160p/litre of our british pennies), but that is far as I can see it in any of our lives anyway.
