Interesting read, but it boils down to an idealistic exercise in efficiency. Already it would be more efficient to ban cars in cities and force everyone to use public transport. The network would improved in every aspect as a result of increased patronage, fares would be reduced, it would be a more efficient use of space and better for the environment. However, obviously the idea of this ever happening is ludicrous, as we actively enjoy the autonomy of the private motor car.
Similarly how modern automatic transmission cars are, in theory, a better product than manual cars; yet they’ve never particularly caught on in Europe. Perhaps humans are creatures of habit.
