To be honest, I've no idea what the test routes are these days. I imagine they have changed and evolved slightly, just as the tests themselves have.
There's limits as to where the tests routes can be I suppose. There's only so far you can get in the limited time the test takes place.
Issues with Gosforth and Darlington years ago, meant Carlisle was used as an last choice alternative. Quite a trek and unless you know Carlisle - very unfamiliar roads.
