He also mentions the practice of some operators dividing a route into 2 or 3 to avoid EU regulations of routes over certain lengths (50km?)- Note Newcastle Express to Middlesbrough via Peterlee and Newcastle to Carlisle via Hexham. In his Bill which has been passed to proceed to next stage on 22nd March, he expresses this practice should no longer be allowed. Some further interesting points expressed, which may affect operations by bus operators

Stagecoach do this practice quite a bit, the amount of routes in Scotland this would affect would be quite high. Services 10 and 35 in the Aberdeen area are just a couple that get split more than once.
