They are all within 5 mins of walking from each other,

Except that we have both Arriva and Go-Ahead linking Newcastle with Durham and Whitley Bay for example.

So, it is unlikely to work having buses split according to operator.

Admittedly, enthusiasts of any 1 company in particular would enjoy having all their choices of buses run from a single bus station.
