It could all be related to cost. If the National Trust couldn't afford such an extravagant livery as worn by Alba's Solo SR, it simply couldn't be done. If they have contributed to 524's repaint, then a fair amount of money has already been spent.
I'd have expected 524 to be repainted and branded immediately. I'm not expecting anything extravagant if so though - it wouldn't have been done at Hexham depot.
