On a related note, I had to wait at the ticket barriers in Gateshead Interchange for no less than 60 seconds the other day - thanks to a 'checky' being on his own, and not paying any attention to customers waiting to get through the barriers, texting away...
He let us all through when a middle-aged bloke started huffing and blowing, before grunting, "The Metro is due in two minutes. Let us through."
