May I ask what is wrong with getting the 36 to Houghton, then a 20 to Sunderland? Routine is important, at the end of the day.
I'm the same. I always seem to head straight over to Newcastle nowadays, even if I plan to go to Sunderland, Shields, or somewhere else.
At least you're not rooted into the pavement between Eldon Square and Haymarket though!
