Arriva North East: Upcoming Service Changes

RE: Arriva North East: Upcoming Service Changes
(08 Sep 2015, 6:26 pm)RobinHood wrote Net Park is listed on that link?

The old X1 only served 3 stops on Coxhoe and this appears to have reverted back to that, except Park Hill has been replaced with Park Avenue.

Couldn't access the link earlier - was getting 'This object has been moved' errors from Arriva's website.

Now that I can access the link, I'd still question whether it's really a limited stop service? There's over 37 stops along the route...

It's good to hear that all stops in Sedgefield will still be served, but the stops in Coxhoe still baffle me. It actually works out alright for me personally, but I can't understand the logic of serving both the Red Lion and Church (0.2 miles apart), yet then almost a mile until the next stop, bypassing a further 3 stops on the way. Would it not be more logical to split that mile gap instead, which would equally serve those walking to the stop from either direction?

I wonder how much influence the uni has had in selecting the stops?

Coxhoe Church being the main stop within Coxhoe - why wouldn't the X12 stop there? As for the Black Lion - still gives people within walking distance of that stop 3 buses an hour in and out of Durham. The other 3 stops that are losing out on the X12 retain the 56/57/57a every 15 minutes. You'd hope they'll upgrade it to something bigger than Solos at some point.

I understand that with the Coxhoe Church stop, but it's a question of the logic in how the stops have been selected for the X12. Yes the 56/57/57A remains, but that doesn't help those wanting to travel to Teesside or Tyneside though. A more even split in distance between stops would.

On the subject of Solos, I have to agree with you. The East Durham College deal seems to have really taken off, and there's a good few using it in both directions. There was 13 got on the 56 I was using yesterday afternoon, which left standing room only into Durham. I've yet to experience it at peak hours, with me being on leave, but it'll certainly be interesting to see the loadings...

Arriva North East: Upcoming Service Changes
Still no X66/X67 timetable yet although I have managed to get some idea of the new routes and times it will run from Arriva's Plan a Journey page.

Darlington Town Centre dep.
05(X66), 20(X67), 35(X66), 50(X67).

Middlesbrough Bus Station dep.
12(X67), 27(X66), 42(X67), 57(X66).

The X67 will use these stops.

Sadly these changes are going to be a nuisance to me as the new times for the X66 (Middlesbrough bound) don't match up with the 5/5A so I think these changes are going to make me want to travel to Middlesbrough less than I do now, unless I get another bus to Darlington as once I include waiting times etc. It would take longer for me to get to Middlesbrough than it would to get to Newcastle or the MetroCentre! So those of you who think that the new changes are great because you only travel on it from Darlington Town Centre to Stockton/Middlesbrough, think about the likes of me who is going to be inconvenienced by these changes. Think I may have to start getting the train to Middlesbrough

Not being funny, but Arriva dont plan their network around your days out!

The departure and arrival times into and from Darlington & Middlesbrough appear to be very attractive both AM and PM.

Looking at the 5 and X66 timetables, surely the 5 arriving at Harrowgate Hill at 13 minutes past, provides a connection to the X66 due there at 15 mins past?

Not sure about you, but I wouldn't rely on a two-minute connection...

VOSA guidelines of 'on-time' are 1 minute early to 5 minutes late - so you need at least six minutes really to be on the safe side.

The sad, annoying truth.

For most people these changes will be a good thing as it will mean more buses to/from Darlington Town Centre, Stockton and Middlesbrough. Most of the loadings on the X66 from Darlington come from the Town Centre with a few getting on down North Road and a fair few more getting on/off in the Harrowgate Hill and Whinfield areas. For many these changes will be an improvement although it will not be seen as an improvement to some and sadly with the way the new times work out it is going to prove to be a right chew on getting to Stockton/Middlesbrough now, if the X66 left Darlington 5 minutes later it wouldn't have been a problem but sadly it doesn't so it is a bit of a problem for me.

I think we all know what I think of the punctuality of services 5/5A!

Even if the 5/5A is on-time two minutes is very tight to meet the connection between the two services and the only way to meet the connection is to run like hell between the two stops and hope the X66 does not leave the stop early.
RE: Arriva North East: Upcoming Service Changes
Might be worth mentioning the X66 will be skip stop down North Road, I'm sure it currently stops everywhere?

The X66 is currently limited stop down North Road, only observing the following stops:

Odeon Cinema
North Road Morrisons
Brougham Street
Thompson Street Post Office
Harrowgate Hill Roundabout
then all stops between Harrowgate Hill Elmcroft and Great Burdon.

So no changes to the stops on this section then.

Maybe it just feels like it stops everywhere lol! Not changing no they look correct.
Looks like Darlington will still be sending a bus light to Middlesbrough on a morning.

Well it's a case of stop at one stop then skip the next one all the way down North Road.

Improvement with a later departure from Darlington back to Teesside. However, the last bus in the opposite direction is now 1925 - presently 1942. Also of note is no journeys there extended from Darlington Town Centre to Faverdale Depot.

EDIT: Leaflets about the improvements are now available in the Middlesbrough Travel Office as well. See below for the map (only shows the Monday-Saturday daytime routes - evening/Sunday X66s additionally run via Hartburn)

They seemingly scrapped a load of journeys after 5pm from Middlesbrough, there's one at 1732 then there's only one at 1825 and the last one at 1925 when at present it's roughly every 20 minutes until around 1820 then half hourly until the last journey at 1942 so they're cutting a fair few journeys after 5pm.

Bloody hell. Some 'improvement'! Who said there was going to be later buses in both directions?!
RE: Arriva North East: Upcoming Service Changes
The last journey from each end is around half 8 in the new timetable, so yes, it's an improvement. Not sure where 1925 has come from.

Darlington will operate the 2025 from Middlesbrough and Stockton will operate the 2030 from Darlington.

The timetable that was uploaded yesterday said that the last journey from Middlesbrough Bus Station is at 1925, notably the timetable now seems to have disappeared. I've just looked on the plan journey page and it is also saying the last X66 from Middlesbrough Bus Station is at 1925. Not sure what the deal is here then.

Thats strange, however they do seem to be having problems with the website this week.

We might need to wait until the leaflet is out for clarification, but I was told half past 8 was the final departure from each end from October.

Don't the 1825/1855/1925/2025 all run via hartburn as a X66

Oh yes having looked at the timetable again they do indeed!
Probably worth mentioning that the times on a Saturday evening are the same, and Sunday's stay the same also, albeit with a few mins extra running time to account for the diversion via Hartburn

Live map update now includes this plus some X66/X67 (however, it still shows the last Middlesbrough departure on the X66 as 1925 - does confirm the 1855 X66 extends to Faverdale). EDIT: only the stop detail for Stockton High Street South doesn't show the 2025 departure at present - this too extends to Faverdale Depot, arrives in Darlington at 2110 Northgate, 2112 Tubwell Row)

The route of the S1 is according to the App:
Stockton High Street, Bridge Road, Yale Crescent, Chapel Street, Station Street, Princeton Drive, The Viaduct, Teesside Park Drive
Return via Teesside Park Drive, Newmarket Avenue, Sandown Way, Teesside Park Drive, The Viaduct, Princeton Drive, Havard Avenue, University Boulevard, Council of Europe Boulevard, Riverside, Church Road, High Street
