Wonder if it is like the one I saw in Scarborough back in January which had a smashed window.

I thought it looked like a non chain pound shop.

I wad reading about a candidate in London somewhere who died recently and he wil stay on the ballot...

What would happen if he won the vote, unless someone knows different, ghosts cannot take there seat in Parliament...

What would happen:-

1. Would the result stand?
2. Would the person in 2nd place be elected? or
3. Would it trigger an instant by-election?

I think the answers to your questions are:

1) Yes
2) No
3) Probably

Irrespective of whether a candidate is dead or alive, the result of the election would have to stand. The person who is second place cannot be declared the winner if someone else has beaten them fair and square. Our version of democracy, described by Lord Hailsham as an elective dictatorship, demands the candidate who receives the most votes is declared the winner of the contest. Under FPTP, it would not be democratic to declare whomever is second to be the victor regardless of circumstance. Obviously, a non-entity cannot take their seat in parliament which means the constituency is not represented - at least not on physical basis (metaphysics aside). Therefore, in all likelihood, it would trigger a by-election.

I see UKIP have been considering legal action after the debate last week, claiming a left-wing bias in the audience and saying the audience was not representative of british people...

leaders debate ukip wants an inquiry into the leftwing bias of the bbc and suggests audience members lied about their political beliefs

Big Nige needs to grow up, he lost, he is a sore loser imo

Umm yeah, good luck with that Nigel.

It also kind of exposes him as a politician who is potentially prepared to use public money to launch pointless inquiries and to pursue nonsensical legal battles which will inevitably lead nowhere.

Where's Mr Monkey when you need him?

I have been thinking about the issue of migrants crossing the med for a while now.
It is a problem, which the media seem to be directing their attention to, but one that has gone on for a long time.

Whilst I feel sorry for the migrants, escaping troubles or conflict at home, there are those who are travelling - to make money or to have a better life, not because of war or persecution. You have families who stick their young children on board, knowing that the Italian authorities will take the kids into care - if they arrive safely.
However, my main gripe, is the criminals and gangs who charter, hire or purchase the vessels - shipping people across the med, in unsafe pieces if kit, rammed in like cattle.

Call the migrants innocent, naive, desperate, vulnerable, greedy or whatever else, but surely the focus needs to be on discouraging them from getting to Libya in the first place and stopping the gangs from shipping them over?
The gangs who take their money and aren't bothered about the cargo, once it sets sail.

The politicians in the UK seem to have picked up on the latest disaster and are giving it their attention and rhetoric, but what difference will it make?
These politicians are essentially at the beck and call of the EU and as members, will be forced to do what the EU say - which includes open borders policies, across mainland Europe.
You then have that Hopkins woman, who said we should machine gun the lot of them.

Not sure what to suggest in the short term, but action needs taking - so that lives aren't lost and criminals aren't making their millions.

I personally think we should keep out of it and it should be left to Greece, Italy, Turkey to deal with, They should be detained in the first country they land, claim asylum there, and only when they have been granted asylum, can they go about there onward journey, if asylum is turned down, turn them round, put them back on a boat and send them back to Libya or hand them over to a third country who would take them on the condition they don't come back for a certain set amount of time...

Can't remember what International Law covers Asylum, The Geneva Convention possibly, but I am sure International Law says refugees can head to the nearest safe country to claim Asylum, and last time I looked at a map, for Syrians, Afghans, Pakistanis, Iranians etc when were we, France, Germany the first safe country for these people when there are plenty in between. I apologise If I have not got my facts right

I am not sure what can be done at present to stem the flow over the Mediterranean. If one route is blocked they will only find another way

I see where you are coming from and to an extent, I agree with some of the points.

It is an EU problem though. Regardless of any UN conventions, as a member of the EU, we are supposed to play an active role, even though Lampedusa is the first port of call in the majority of cases.
A ship carrying Syrians crashed into Rhodes yesterday, with survivors swimming ashore.
They will have skirted the Turkish coast and passed Cyprus, just to get to Rhodes.

I saw that on the news, I feel sorry for these people, I really do, but there are plenty of 'safe' places before reaching the English Channel.

It seems to me that it is issues like that gives Big Nige and his Union of Knobs, Idiots and Ponces something to shite on about...

It is. Him and that Hopkins woman, love things like this.

Nige was saying how he would accept a limited amount of the migrants, if they were christian.
No idea what happens to those from another religion like.

I am sick of hearing this Aussie Style points based immigration system, as much as Nige wants it, it just cant ever happen as long as we are in the EU, doesn't the open border policy or schengen, whatever it is called stop us putting things like a points system in place

Places like Canada have it too.
They have had to lower their points system, as it was very restrictive.
I would like to think I have a decent education and my background is of a professional level, yet I wasn't too far off the minimum points total to get in.

Points systems don't stop Africans, Syrians and people from other middle east , far east and South/Central American nations, slipping in the back door though.
One of the prime nations, with citizens breaking visa rules in the UK - is Australia.

Ironic, when they have such strict policies at their end.

Aye, because of Schengen, there are practically no border crossings in mainland Europe. We are the only country to keep passport control. I am guessing our Island status, is one of the reasons.
Obviously you have airports in Europe, who still check id/passports - but road border controls are no more.

I see Arthur Scargill launched the Socialist Labour Manifesto today...I didn't think he was still active in politics Last I heard he was a friendless house hermit...

He talking about a 90% top tax rate and a minimum wage of £25 grand a year(about 12 quid an hour)...

In other news, teenage girls seem to have a thing for Ed Miliband one said 'If I could meet Ed, I could die happy' WTF...Ed Miliband is no Louis Tomlinson or Harry Styles...

And did anyone see Alex Salmonds supposedly jokey comment about he was going to write Labours budget, bit of a silly thing to say...

I also saw yesterday questions were put to Grant Shapps for supposedly editing his own wikipedia entry and was accused of attacks on other wikipedia pages...

Oh aye, I had a leaflet through my door the other from the North East Party, does anyone anything about them???

We're you searching for those images of Ed photoshopped on David Beckham and Borat's body's?
