While we are on about the Northern League...
League Chairman Mike Amos is to retire at the end of the season
Northern League chairman Mike Amos to retire at the end of next season after 20 years
Like him or loathe him, he has turned the Northern League into the best Step 5 League in the country...Starting with Whitby Town back in 1997, he oversaw the Northern League domination of the FA Vase to the point that a beano to Wembley is pretty much guaranteed year in, year out.
The one thing I don't like is his opposition to the FA and the Pyramid, I would prefer it if The Northern League had more ambition, but I suppose you only can live within your means, in doing so, the Northern League is probably the best attended Step 5 league and can attract players of a really high standard.
Mike Amos, loves his football and anything to do with local football, I have spoke to him a few times over e-mail, he is very likable and would do anything to protect the game locally...
I think he will be a miss come next season, whoever gets the job has a huge pair of boots to fill
