Northern (Arriva Rail North)

RE: Northern Rail
(19 Feb 2016, 12:00 am)South Tyne Lad wrote Yes I have got a source from the " Northern Franchise Awarded to Arriva " Thread in RailUK Forums They discuss what Arriva have confirmed will happen in the Franchise.

GWR 150s, 5 Scotrail 156s and a dozen Scotrail 170s are transferring to Arriva Rail North in 2017, This will in turn release the 144s and 153s to the Lessor.
New stock is indeed being delivered from late 2018 which will replace Sprinters in the North West and Yorkshire which makes them Available to use in the North East, Replacing the 142s all over Northern.

That idea was brought up by Lesaing Company " Porterbrook " which owns the 153s but that idea was rejected by Arriva and as such the 153s are returning to the lessor in 2017

Ok cheers for that, I was not doubting you btw, It was just the first I heard about the 144's being returned/withdrawn so soon.

Any truth in the fact as soon as the franchises changes, some 185's will be on loan to Arriva for the Barrow services as I assume they are getting immediately transferred to Arriva in April?

Certainly going to be an interesting few years coming up.

its only been brought up recently about the 144s and 153s being returned next year but I'm sure it will be in Newspaper Reports in the next few months.

Arriva haven't confirmed whether they will use either 185s or 156s on the Barrow and Windermere Services till the new Trains arrive.
But with Transpennine Express releasing 22 of its Class 185s from April until I believe 2017. Its more likely 185s will operate them routes.

Also if Northern use 156s on Windermere Services which requires pathing along a pretty long section WCML from Preston to Oxenholme. The Timetable will have to be considerably modified to fit 75mph paths on a lengthy part of a 125mph High Speed Line, Wheres 185s already operate that section and so will not require next to nothing changing.

Certainly is Smile

Had a quick look at the timetable and (hopefully my tired eyes have counted up correctly) at the moment:

Sunderland from Newcastle:

1 - 02:00 - 06:59
4 - 07:00 - 09:59
6 - 10:00 - 15:59
4 - 16:00 - 18:59

3 - 16:00 - 18:59
2 - 19:00 - 21:59
1 - 22:00 - 01:59

The times of the early and late trains are interesting as they potentially imply the trains run into the night...
The last train out of Sunderland to Newcastle currently, is just after 2200 Wink

RE: Northern Rail
Sorry for posting so much rail posts the past week, Both Buses and Trains are my favourites.

Anyways Regarding the routing of the " Northern Connect " service between Newcastle Central and Middlesbourgh has been confirmed.....and its not the Durham Coast.

Richard Myers from Arriva Northern at a Transport Forum in Teeside the other day confirmed the following:

Most Northern Connect services will run via the ECML and Stillington Branch to reach Stockton and then Thornaby and Middlesbourgh.
The rest of the Northern Connect services are expected to be run via Darlington.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Chester-Le-Street and Durham will have Direct Services to Middlesbourgh and Teeside with the service running on a Hourly Frequency.
The Durham Coast Line beyond Sunderland in the Middlesbourgh direction will remain Hourly, complemented by a few Grand Centrals a day between Hartlepool and Sunderland.

Between Sunderland and Newcastle Central services will be increased to Half-Hourly with extras in the peaks, 1 service runs through to the Metrocentre and one will terminate at Newcastle Central.

2 Trains a Hour between Newcastle and Middlesbrough
2 Trains a Hour between Newcastle and Sunderland
1 Train a Hour between Sunderland and Middlesbrough
RE: Northern Rail
Don't be... its the whole point of the forum, to post information and ask questions.

I'm glad we're finally getting a half hour service between Sunderland and Newcastle again.

Shame its after i finish college for good....

Also around what sort of time will the service to Bishop Auckland be increased to hourly operation?

Probably Class 156s

I'd say it's reasonable to expect to see a new livery for the new franchise. From 1st April, you'd expect to see them do something with the current livery for an interim period, as it contains Serco and abellio names.

Nothing has been confirmed on that yet, But speculation is that 156s will be staying with Class 150s transferring from Newton Heath in the North West
Though 150s will have to get cleared between Pelaw and Sunderland first before that happens.

around 2018 I believe though it could be earlier or later

I will update you when more info comes about Smile

If they are GWR 150/0's (the only type I have had a go of) - I didn't enjoy them at all.

No its definitely not 150/0s as there's only 2 of them and there staying with GWR I believe.
Northern operate 150/1s and 150/2s and are all at the minute based at Newton Heath TMD in the North West.

150/1s ( Very Similar to /0s ) arnt the best like you say but 150/2s are great.

Almost went in the 'What has made you laugh thread'.

Northern are suggesting I take my Mam out on Sunday, using their network.

Not sure it would go down too well...
