To continue the current route, but to add on a figure of 8 loop at the southern end, to incorporate Low Fell and Chowdene.
The idea being that it takes away some of the pressure on existing long distance Durham Road services.

Frequency to be reduced or PVR increased.
I'd say the 53/54 gets busy enough as it is. Especially across the Gateshead section. Reducing the frequency would cause it problems throughout the day, and then you have the problem of where do the extra Streetlites come from, if you were to increase the PVR?
