RE: 2015/16 Football Season
(01 May 2016, 2:48 pm)Tom wrote Leicester got away with one there! Should have been a pen but Drinkwater red card was fair enough though.

I think the pulling started outside of the box, so surely a free kick was the correct decision?

I'd like to see Spurs beat Chelsea tomorrow night, so that Leicester can win the title at home next weekend.

I'm not sure but it was very tight either way. I think Man United have thrown away any chance of a top 4 finish now, and they play West Ham sometime soon so they could loose out on Europa League group stage qualification. Fair result today though, Southampton v Man City will be a good one next.

I was looking forward to it, as I should have had a couple of FPL players playing, however squad rotation means that Pelle and KDB aren't even in the squads. Similarly, Klopp named a 6 man bench earlier, excluding Firmino. That's my FPL season ruined.

I had Firminio as captain - how do you think I feel haha! Smile
And to make it even better I've got Aguero as VC and he isn't playing either. Andreos has won it now I think.

Haha, I captained him against us last week Wink

NEB wise, I was out of it pretty much from the beginning, though I started to pick up nearer the end, I'm close with my friend in a H2H league though, and if I lose the mocking will be relentless. (I was four or five wins ahead at one point, even my captaining of Andros this week hasn't been enough)

Nightmare week for me - 8 points!! You got 35 so that's not too bad, could have been even more if managers weren't rotating their squads.

I've got a triple captain to use too so no idea who to use that on.

I imagine I'll use mine next game week, might just use it on Defoe....

The relegation fight is very interesting again mind, we looked dead and buried after that Southampton performance, but I'd say we've got a very good chance now. 6 points I think would see us safe, while 4 is risky, and any less sees us deservedly relegated.

We don't want him scoring!!

And yeah we need to win both of our games. If we had have appointed Rafa two months before hand we could have been in a totally different positions. But no Graham Carr and Lee Charnley thought McClown was good (he couldn't even manage a championship club properly never mind a BPL club despite spending £50m!!) And how did no one see how good Lascelles was? Are the staff at the club that thick (or blind)

If he does, at least it isn't complete heartbreak if he's my triple captain Wink

I think we can win both of our games, we just need to perform like we did against Man City when we play Villa and Tottenham. Villa may be a trickier game than everyone thinks, they weren't bad at all yesterday.

Lascelles, if he keeps doing what he's doing, should be future captain material. Taylor and Colo need to go this summer no matter what division we're playing in next season.

Villa were very unlucky yesterday - The sending off ruined it for them though.

Taylor isn't even Championship standard so he can fuck off. Even Williamson was better than Taylor and thats saying something. Colo has like 1 canny came in 20.

Edit very good by Southampton so far, think Man City have one eye on the CL on Wednesday. Ronald Koeman is a great manager, considering how many key players they have lost it's great that he's brought equally as good players to replace them. 2-0 now!!!!

At least Williamson tried, as much as Taylor likes to think he is 'passionate' he can't put in performances to show it.

Colo's legs are gone, he's been a fantastic player for us in times gone by, but Lascelles and Mbemba blow him out of the water now.

I'm starting to fall in love with Townsend, he gives absolutely everything.

I wouldn't mind seeing Krul leave in the summer, Elliot and Darlow have been more reliable this season in my opinion, Krul has always been prone to mistakes, and I much prefer Elliot/Darlow for starting counter attacks.

Townsend is very good yeah, and for a player who supposedly has attitude problems! Shame Shelvey didn't live up to expectations but I said that from the start. Haven't seen much of Saviet which is a shame but Tiote has solid recently.

Aye Darlow is canny - I think he was thrown in at the deep end v West Brom and everyone wrote him off. Fair play to him. We definitely need back up in defence though, Janmaat can go too as I don't think he  is good enough or cares and, Anita seems to be better at RB than CM!

I'd love him to score the winner in the final game, imagine if that keeps us up!

It is a shame with Shelvey, I just don't think he's made for a relegation battle. Saivet I rated in the Everton(?) game, but Rafa sees him train daily so I trust his judgement. Tiote seems to have gone back to what he was good at originally, winning the ball and giving it straight away, in the late-Pardew/Carver/SMC era he tried to doo too much in my opinion.

He seems to be getting more and more confident, which for a goalkeeper is only a good thing. Janmaat I always rated, however since Anita has filled in at right back it's obvious how poor Janmaat is defensively.

Yep you can see a massive difference in loads of the players since Rafa has came. We'd be down already with Mcclaren I reckon.

Another title is heading Leicester's way tonight too. Mark Selby has just won his second World Snooker Championship by 18 frames to 14.

By doing so, he remains World Number 1. A spot which would have been taken by Stuart Bingham had he lost to Ding Junhui.

5000/1 back in August...

Quite possibly, the greatest story ever told on football...

Lets not take anything away from Brian Clough and Nottingham Forest in the 70's, but in todays environment, all the money floating around, this is a real achievement...

Now, the question is, how will Leicester fare next season, I cannot see them matching the Madrids and Barcelonas and cant see them successfully defending there title...

I would love to say the 3 or 4 way dominance has been broken, but I suspect normal service will be resumed next season...

I never thought the words Leicester and Premier League Champions would fit in the same sentence...

Well done to Leicester though, they deserve it, they have managed to stay consistent all season and they thoroughly deserve everything they jave achieved this year

It is an amazing story, greatest football story ever told in my opinion...

What a story for Jamie Vardy as well, 9 years ago playing for Stocksbridge Park Steels in Evo-Stik Division One South and turning out for Fleetwood Town as recently as 2012.

Vardys story on it's own is nothing short of amazing and quite inspirational if I say so myself.

I hope Leicester can hold on to the Vardy's and Mahrez's, I hope they can build on this Premier League win and use it to further there ambitions, you can write Leicesters achievements on the back of a fag packet...That squad should quite rightly be given the freedom of Leicester.

This story in my opinion is the kind only seen on a screenplay from the depths of a screenwriters mind

Vardy has had an a amazing 9 years in football, hopefully that can continue and like you said Fozz, keep the players, in all honesty i think they could struggle with balancing champions league football, the league and both cups, if they get a decent run in them.

Vardy was having a party at his last night, http://www.skysports.com/football/news/1...-champions

Yeah...I saw something about the party on MOTD. Probably still going on now

I bet there is a few sore heads in the East Midlands this morning.

Ultimately, Leicester will not be able to keep up, Blackburn didn't after there win in 1995 and were relegated within a few years, ultimately Leicester will never challenge the big boys, I would like to see them ride this wave for a couple of years though before the bubble bursts.

This season has been the stuff dreams are made off, if I had said back in August last year what would happen, I would have been laughed off this board, exiled, never to be heard from again and completely ridiculed

One thing though...It pisses me off that it aint one of our teams, both Sunderland and Newcastle have world class setups and much better fanbases imo...

In other news...

The Smogs only need a point to win automatic promotion to The Premiership this weekend, 7 years after being relegated

Darlington have had their role in Leicester winning the Prem.
It was the club Schmeichel made his first team debut at.

Kind of old news now

But Darlington announced a new shirt sponsorship deal in the last couple of weeks

Darlington FC agrees to a 2 year sponsorship deal with Virgin Trains

Darlington FC wroteDarlington Football Club agrees sponsorship deal with Virgin Trains

Darlington Football Club has joined forces with Virgin Trains in a two-year-deal which will see the East Coast route operator feature on all first team and replica kits.

The news comes after several meetings between the club and Virgin Trains over the last three months, and club director John Tempest said; “We have worked very hard to secure a top national sponsor and for a club at our level to attract Virgin Trains is a real coup and demonstrates we are taking the club to the next level in terms of corporate sponsorship.” Speaking about the deal, Darlington FC manager Martin Gray said: “The new shirt with Virgin’s logo on it looks fantastic and to have such a well-known and successful brand on the kit shirt reinforces the history and tradition of our great Club in attracting such interest.”

Richard Cook, Club Director added: “ The announcement of our partnership with Virgin Trains is the first of a number of exciting announcements the club will be making to the fans of Darlington FC over the coming months as we move back home to Darlington. With this season’s promotion and the successful fund raising for the Back to Darlo appeal there has never been a better time to support The Quakers.”

Phillip Peacock, Brand Partnerships Manager for Virgin Trains said: “It’s an exciting time to be working with Darlington FC. It’s a club with real heritage with an exciting future ahead. Working closely with organisations and people along our route, and being part of the community, are important to Virgin Trains, so we’re delighted to be supporting a club that has such strong community links, and we’re looking forward to being part of the club’s exciting future. Bring on next season and beyond!”

There are at least 60 Virgin Trains a day to and from Darlington, offering customers a great range of value train tickets and cheap rail fares from destinations across England and Scotland. The new Avec kit, featuring the Virgin Trains logo will be available to purchase at the end of May.

The club has also released pictures of next season kits

So big day tomorrow in both the Championship and PL.

Boro or Brighton to get promoted do we think?

And anyone have any predictions for the big relegation battles tomorrow? I'm going for Sunderland to draw 1-1, us to beat Villa 2-0 and Man U to beat Norwich.

I reckon Middlesbrough will get promoted.

As for the relegation battle, I've predicted Chelsea to beat Sunderland 2-1, us to beat Aston Villa 3-1 Manchester United to beat Norwich 2-0. More hope than expectation, but I do think it's possible.
