Go North East: Latest News & Discussion - August 2016

RE: Go North East: Latest News & Discussion - August 2016
It's gotta link with something or the dead mileage would be horrific. But may be if they make Washington lower cost the overall saving would outweigh the dead mileage

The rebranded 5385, 5387 and 5388 have route details on the rear saying the service terminates at St Peter's Basin

One was parked up in riverside that looked like 8294 it's strange as I seen at least all of the versas out last week.

Yes - neither the Citylink 57 or Quaylink Q3 route maps take into account the extensions of those respective routes. Hopefully it will be corrected soon, as it defeats the point of having it there otherwise.

Well, here's something to work out for you's (and NO checking with control Dan / Citaro)

The Saturday board below is a follows:
- 310 | 09:33 Dep | Station Road / Chicken Road (Code H)
- 310 | 10:01 Arr | North Shields Rudyerd Street
- 310 | 10:04 Dep | North Shields Rudyerd Street
- 310 | 10:51 Arr | Newcastle Haymarket
- 309 | 10:57 Dep | Newcastle Haymarket

Have a guess what time the driver of this board got back to New York heading towards Newcastle?

Well, the driver who was supposed to take over the board at Verne Road at approx 13:50 heading into Shields ended up coming up at about 14:55 and saw me in my Toon shirt and asked if I was waiting for the bus (obviously). Tracked it down on my app so didn't get exactly caught out and it came just before 15:00 and absolutely packed with the driver minutes away from running out of driving hours (5hr 30m).

Would the positioning from Percy Main to Station Road in the morning not count though as part of the driving hours (would still count towards pay) or is that just seen as what driving the company van or walking is like?

St Bede's Lanchester have requested a fuller explanation as to why the school buses have been excluded from the £1 scheme. The statement is expected on Tuesday.

Who are they expecting a statement from, out of interest? Surely it's up to a commercial business as to which services are included in the £1 scheme, and to my understanding, it's still a reduction from the fare paid previously? Which was anything up to £2.30 iirc.

I suppose it depends what the service level agreements are between the local authority and Go North East. Perhaps they're providing the services at a break even point in the first place, compared to what they make from other scholars services.

As well as being responsible for home school transport, local authorities are also obliged to promote the use of sustainable transport. If people feel that this isn't happening, then I would suggest writing to their councillors about it - http://formersite.durham.gov.uk/pages/My...inder.aspx

Go North East: Latest News & Discussion - August 2016
I have copied and pasted the post over which may provide a clearer overview, especially as I would not be able to explain it properly myself.

"Dear Parent / Carer

It has recently been brought to our attention that Go North East has promoted a £1 per journey fare on their bus routes for under 18's. This is a development that we had no prior knowledge of, nor are we connected to it in any way.

We totally appreciate concerns and frustrations and we are in high level communication with Go North East to provide further details on this development."

Following initial discussions, we have been informed that the £1 per Journey offer is not applicable for any dedicated school runs that Go North East provide. We have requested that Go North East provide a fuller explanation and a reassurance that the St Bede's Key Card woll provide the best value for money at "school operating times".

We will issue further information, including a statement from Go North East, next Tuesday via our school website."

The field was waterlogged so closed, but the gravel section of the South Park and Ride site remained open.

Fewer buses were therefore deployed on the south site, with extra resources allocated to the north site to cope with the extra demand.

Last day of "Tall Ships" today, will the buses outstanding to get withdrawn be moved around to another Park or Ride event or get withdrawn?

Fairly quiet day on the Tall Ships today - Go North East are only providing Park & Ride services on the south site today. Arriva are providing the Park & Ride services for the north (but may have sub-contracted them out to independents as they have done with other work at the weekend).

The fleet position should have returned to the norm from last night (with a number of Volvo B10BLEs being withdrawn), but some of the buses involved in temporary transfers may still need to return to their home depots, depending on how many staff were available last night to complete movements.

Also worth noting that Washington had the use of indiGo Solo 655 yesterday for driver familiarisation - was picked up early doors yesterday morning. Should return to Deptford tonight.

Ah right, thanks for the info.

I've just remembered it's nearly the Great North Run so no buses will be withdrawn until after that.

Has anymore buses arrived from Brighton?

Great North Run is on a Sunday, so plenty of spare double-decks then!

No further ex-Brighton Scania DD have arrived - should be some more mid to late September. 6136, which is the final ex-Brighton Scania DD to remain in Brighton & Hove livery, was used on Blyth Tall Ships yesterday. Should be the last time it's out in Brighton & Hove livery!

Once it returns from repaint, 3864 should be withdrawn from service at Stanley. Two Volvo Olympians will be retained a little longer, to allow some Volvo B7TL at Stanley to become paint floats.

Some B10's will be withdrawn after the Tall Ships event finishes today.

Yes; they're both planned to be withdrawn very soon, as well as further native Volvo B10BLEs.

Not yet!

The Volvo B10BLEs being withdrawn are those which were planned to be withdrawn a few weeks back at Riverside Depot. The majority were allocated to Chester-le-Street and Stanley this weekend to allow double-decks to be released for Tall Ships and Kynren.
