Arriva North East: Rare & Odd Workings - September 2016

It's not like they're being kept local by swapping over!

Durham Gilesgate traffic was the worst I've ever seen it, this morning, including when the Christmas festival is on. After nipping to the stop across the road to show people that their bus hadn't got out of Claypath, yet and was running 35 minutes yet, I ran back, hopped on ours and we duly ground to a halt just past the Majestic. It was honestly quicker to walk. We eventually arrived a mere half hour late.

I needed to get to the Arnison centre. The 64 I let pass because there was a huge queue for it was an hour late. I caught the one behind it, which was only 47 minutes late!

Traffic seemed to be back to its normal level of chaos by noon, but quite a few services were still up as xx minutes in the bus station, as they'd ended up all out of sync and were only just getting back to normal.

And, of course, GNE apologised on Twitter for late runnign services in the area. Not a peep out of Arriva. Not sure why they bother with social media. They didn't even have anyone manning it on the bank holiday.

Or weekends! Sign off on Friday and they aren't back on until Monday (or Tuesday in the case of a bank holiday).

They do seem to have got worse, recently. I only follow the account to see if there's any problem. Confidence fails as soon as they tell you what a lovely day it is in the Northeast, when you can see out of the window and it's peeing down and blowing a gale. I know money's been tight, but they need to not scrimp on customer service. (Or driver communication - our driver, this morning, had no means of communicating with others and, when I returned to DBS around non, there was a gaggle of them, all looking confused, waiting for their respective buses.)

Aye, Arriva do not have radios. They're expected to make contact by using their personal mobile phones.

I believe at the same time, they're not allowed to use their phone in the cab. Even on legal handsfree...

Totally useless at informing us of any incidents, been an accident at Nevilles Cross this morning, services I think are either unable to operate in the area or are just really delayed (Go North East claim they are operating the X21 via South Road on their Facebook) whilst this is all Arriva have posted on their Facebook this morning.

So yeah, Lord knows what's happening in Durham right now but at least we've got Bake Off to look forward to tonight right?!

I'm regretting not taking a photo of the traffic jam we were in on Monday for the "take a photo of your journey" competition.
