RE: Durham County Council
(21 Aug 2015, 10:07 pm)Jimmi wrote It will be quieter on a morning at the moment as the schools are off and some people are on holiday so there will less cars and no school buses/coaches running through Durham on a morning. I can't say anything about mornings as I haven't been over that way at rush hour on a morning but the traffic is definitely worse from Gilesgate during the daytime and I have seen the 22/24 often Arrive anything up to 15 minutes late (sometimes more) and the 20/20A have often arrived in Durham Bus Station within seconds of each other at times.

The 22/24 are always late. One of my mates lives up Thornley way, and he's forever on at Arriva about reliability. We've discussed their inability to regulate services for yonks now though, haven't we?

Have to agree about the 22/24, they have often turned up late when I've used them on outings.

It's been much, much better since the end of October when the 22 got the Sunderland run. Before that I used to see buses running just a few minutes apart, which is terrible for a half hourly service. When it was hourly, they'd just get cancelled. I never bothered travelling to Durham unless I had an appointment. I have a feeling that the 24 now gets the bulk of the late runs, though. Even if there's no roadworks, on the route, it can take forever to do that windy run through Pennine drive etc in Peterlee if people are badly parked.

Have to agree about 22/24 they are often very late. I'm fact the millburngate bridge works seems to have sorted some reliability issues out as since they interwork I've noticed they haven't turned up as late as usual.

(21 Aug 2015, 9:58 pm)Jimmi wrote Try getting into Durham from Gilesgate, at least 20 minutes to get from Gilesgate Sainsburys to Durham Bus Station on most journeys I've done on the services that run along that way since the roadworks started so I disagree to some extent. I am not getting another 20/20A, 22/24, 208 or 265 into Durham until the roadworks end as the traffic is horrendous in this area at the moment.

To be honest, Gilesgate can be bad without the roadworks.
Having lived in the area in years gone by and also travelled in car and on bus in the area on a too regular basis since, it doesn't take much to cause it to snarl up - hence the bus lane being introduced and the X20 (both when it was a standalone service and since its peak time only runs) using the A690 and inbound bus lane.
The road layout from Gilesgate onto Leazes Bowl, was also adapted to take into account the traffic issues.

As for the 20/20a running in pairs and arriving/departing together. That's nowt new. I think we have both mentioned it in the past - well before the works.
One often ends up parked outside the marked bays, due to there already being one on the bay.

45mins from the car parts place at the junction of Sherburn Road - Milburngate lights is the record in the car.
That was a few years ago and without any works going on.

Completely forgot to mention this the other day - but members of staff from DCC have been in Peterlee bus station, conducting surveys on smoking/smoking in the bus station.

There were at least two members of staff asking questions about how regularly you use the station, whether smokers flout bans and are seen to be smoking in the station and if anything could be done to improve things with regard to maintaining the ban.

Most people stand in front of the doors to smoke, there. And, unless it's cold or wet, most people stand in front of the doors, regardless!

Similar to North Road?

I only ever use Peterlee to change buses, so have never ventured anywhere other than the bus stands.

There's quite a lot of space between the sheltered area and the bus bays and a lot of people wait there. It gets quite unpleasant inside when it's busy. Loud and claustrophobic.

You're not missing much not leaving the station. It's pretty much home bargains, B&M bargains and the ilk, plus a massive asda. And it's all very tired and ugly looking. The new town dream all gone to rot.

Good. It does my head in, having to walk through a cloud of smoke, every time I walk in or out of Durham bus station.

I've made the choice not to pollute my lungs, so I'd really prefer it if others didn't do it for me. Smile

Good, although I dare bet that after a few weeks they won't bother and just go back to hiding in their cubbyhole.

On the subject of Durham Bus Station, are they ever going to fix that door next to stand A?

Given that they're holding out for a new one, I doubt they're ever going to fix it.

Though I have no idea what the excuse for not fixing the door to stand A at Peterlee. Hopefully, they have plans to flatten the entire town centre and start again, a bit like Gateshead did.

There's sketchy details of the roadworks, here
https://twitter.com/DurhamCouncil/status...2092422144

Not seen anything on te ANE website about arrangements for the 22, 24 and 64 on Sunday, of course, though there was a notice taped up on one of the buses I caught today. Diversion via the A690. Not much good if you only catch the bus on a Sunday because there was nothing up on either bus I caught on Monday - one of them being the same as today's with the notice.

been told by DCC transport section that the service will be run by DCC fleet, I work at Wheatley Hill and customers are saying about when there lost there link to Deaf Hill and trimdon areas.

About service 214 Haswell-Thornley-Wheatley Hill-Peterlee Industrial estate, I was asking DCC about what operates this service as I havn't seen a mini bus etc... going along the route at the set time, the reply back was:

Tony’s Taxis is operated under his ‘Restricted PSV Licence’ which allows a licensed taxi or private hire vehicle to be used on a local service (ie capable of carrying 8 or fewer passengers). To be honest I don’t know what he is currently operating it with or displaying but it can be used between any two points on the route.

Aye, when we moved here, like 13 years ago, there was a minibus that did a similar route, but that bit the dust when we got the 57a

That minibus service was a dial a ride run by Community Transport.... It did nothing.
lets hope this 216 has more luck..
RE: Durham County Council
Well, I hope word gets around about the 216 because I passed it at gore hall, this afternoon, carrying fresh air.

Actually think they've missed a trick not running I to Sedgefield Sainsbury's.
