RE: Lothian Buses open day
This year, Lothian Buses Open Doors Day will be held on Saturday 24th September 2016.

Unfortunately, for those of us travelling from the North East, it would appear that services along the East Coast Mainline towards Edinburgh will be diverting via Carlisle between Newcastle and Edinburgh Waverly that day. Sadly for this reason I think I'm going to give it a miss this year as I don't want to spend anywhere between 3 hours, 27 minutes and 4 hours, 17 minutes each way! on the train from Darlington.

No idea if I will be going here but I doubt it if the trains are diverted. Only way I will be going if my dad can take me up in the car.

I was looking forward to going, as soon as I saw the event appear on Facebook I was checking train times/fares and I made the unfortunate discovery. I'm not prepared to put myself through journeys with a minimum travel time of three hours and a half hours (each way) when it normally takes between two - two and a half hours from Darlington.

If anyone is prepared to go, the train fares are currently pretty cheap.

Going to look into doing Edinburgh another day now.

And it will probably be a HST unless they do a drag which very rarely happens.

Well, b...

We were hoping to go, this year, too - and make time to visit Camera Obscura. I guess that's not happening, now.

Booked drags a couple of times per day.

I'm not sure whether I will be attending or not. During the diversions I like to jolly about on the Tyne Valley on them non stop several times per day (even having a run to/from Edinburgh) so whether I do it or not will depend on whether I'm sick of bashing the diversions!

It is, if you like taking photos of random's stood in front of buses. Tongue Seriously though, if you are willing to pay the train fares, it is a good day out, doesn't cost too much to do Plusbus meaning you can sample some of the buses in service as well.

Will try and get myself there this time after giving last year a miss which I slightly regretted due to appearances of Olympians running around which probably won't happen this time. Also need loads of photos of Lothian, East Coast Buses and Borders Buses etc. as well.

Don't kill me if it's not but it sounds about right.

That's right. I'm there for the weekend.... mainly on the beer.

Annoyingly the tickets are not out yet on VTEC...

I am going to go again so I can have another successful youtube video like last years:

Lothian Buses open day
Sadly just looked on National Rail Enquiries website for trains on that date and sadly it appears engineering works are on again with division via Carlisle I imagine (like last year), so sadly it looks like I may be bailing on the idea again due to the increase in travel times and the fact the last train from Edinburgh appears to be at 17:55 meaning I would only have about 5 hours in Edinburgh, which is not really enough for me.

EDIT: I'm definitely not going anymore

Was a hellish event last year, just couldn't move in the depot  especially with it only being 10-4 - don't think I'd go again... long weekend at Showbus this year for me.
