Go North East: Latest News & Discussion - November 2017

RE: Go North East: Latest News & Discussion - November 2017
In terms of this years Boxing Day services, did the late journeys on some services get put in 'to test the water' despite the Toon fixture being moved (I think??) before the timetables were submitted?

I believe that Intu fund some journeys.

They also park along the side of the depot. There's a public footpath that runs the entire length of the garage and brings you out in the housing estate behind the big academy.

The outside parking slots are temporary as they move other vehicles around. It's council land there, never left overnight.

No Metro centre very disappointed.

The way I read it. Is 27 from Newcastle to Jarrow will be every 10 mins but not going via Luke's lane as rumoured but from Jarrow to South Shields very 20mins meaning that Jarrow would be to change buses.

9 from Jarrow looks to go where 88A go's to Luke's Lane PS I didn't think it be much of a demand for it.

26 Is confusing where it go's from Jarrow because on the news board it looks like it's going same way as 88 then from Monkton Lane to Newcastle (Hopefully Eldon Square).

I was hoping for scania omnicite instead for 26 shame but GNE will need to create new day & weekly tickets hopefully cheap like quraylink and merge them. If not I can't see people using 9 if you got pay more.

Also H1 will be intersected where it go's.

I read it as:

26/27 - every 10mins (combined) - current route to Jarrow - then
Every 20mins Jarrow to shields (27)
Every 20mins Jarrow to Shields via hospital (26)

its 26 and 27 every 20 mins full route Newcastle to South Shields. Both combined every 10 minutes Newcastle to Jarrow. Then 27 via Normal route to Shields every 20 minutes and 26 every 20 minutes from Jarrow to Shields via the 88/a route.

Of course what has been published today isn't the 'official' service changes page as such - that will probably be posted at the back end of December. Any issues regarding clarity should hopefully be cleared up then.

You're not the only one to read it like that.

They seem to be going for the black headlight clusters now - would be nice if they could repaint the Castles Express Streetdecks to match.

I think it will be exactly the same although I do think it may get similar rear adverts like the B5TL's on the X9/X10.
RE: Go North East: Latest News & Discussion - November 2017
Honestly thought that GNE would've gone back to pink for the Angel.

Although the StreetDecks have proven a shambles on the Castles Express so far, they 'should' prove Ok on the X21 touch wood!
RE: Go North East: Latest News & Discussion - November 2017
I read the report as, the New 26 and current 27 to run a combined frequency of every 10 minutes between Newcastle and Jarrow, and then splitting from Jarrow to South Shields given a 20 minute frequency on their own routes, ie the 27 on its existing route and the New 26 using the current 88/88a route.

I presume as the report states that Newly Refurbished Citaros will be used for the 26 & 27 services, at the combined frequency of every 10 minutes, that more Citaros will be needed for the combined PVR to what is already allocated to the Crusader 27. Again I presume that these extra vehicles will come from the Citaros still going for refurb?

Yes probaby see 5305-5309 transferring to Riverside. No doubt 1 or 2 as spares

I agree on majority of routes of the 21s nature, however I'm not sure the North East is really suited to dual door vehicles?

The bus stations at either end aren't set up for that - and it would mean, at a lot of stops, that passengers are either getting on or off the bus away from the raised kerb, limiting accessibility for a lot of people.

Glazed upper deck front corner panels like the X9 X10 buses.

But then what would go on the 35? I'd have thought 5323 and possibly 5324 would possibly join the crusader brand (depending on how many the PVR increases by although I can't see it being more then 2) Then having the older Merc's as spares at Riverside

Travelled on the 26 last week in Edinburgh and i think the glass staircase is a good idea. Also seems to be dimmer lights on upper  which i found quite cosy. Like the double screens also with the travel disruption info.

Do these have tables like the other streetdecks?

Yes, Lothian are really leading the way with passenger information.

They've spent a huge amount of money on Hanover LED displays and Next Stop Announcements. Very big contract. Their media is all being programmed by Hanover directly rather than Lothian employing someone to do it, I understand. Lothian are also pulling the strings with development work too - which obviously other operators will benefit from, but it mightn't be catered to other operators' needs.

Yes, tables on these too.
