Yorkshire Bus Operations

RE: Yorkshire Bus Operations
Yorkshire Tiger have cancelled all but one of their Barnsley and South Yorkshire area contracted services today effective from the 2nd September.
RE: Yorkshire Bus Operations
Stagecoach Yorkshire

Further expansion ahead - from 23rd July, Stagecoach have been awarded the contract for the tendered journeys on the 65 (Sheffield to Buxton) which have been thrown in by High Peak (the two commercial journeys leaving Buxton at 0855 and 1225 will remain operated by High Peak). These will be operated by Chesterfield and will be extended from Sheffield to Meadowhall along the same route as the X17 extension.

Derbyshire County Council have put the timetable for the extended X17 on their transport website - it starts on the 22nd July.

The breakdown is as followed:
- The Chesterfield-Sheffield short journeys Monday to Saturday are extended via Meadowhall and the M1 to Barnsley. The only weekday exception to that is the 0715 departure from Matlock which extends to Barnsley, all Matlock journeys will continue to terminate in Sheffield Interchange during the week - on Sundays journeys will operate between Matlock and Barnsley (although the first departure from Barnsley isn't until 0938 arriving in Matlock at 1204, with the last full length journey to Barnsley leaves Matlock at 1510 - giving just 3 hours in Matlock)
- The present last Monday to Saturday departure from Sheffield to Matlock will run 5 minutes later than present. A new later journey from Barnsley to Chesterfield is introduced, leaving Barnsley at 2015 and Sheffield at 2105 with arrival in Chesterfield at 2142 (the driver and vehicle on that working has a 75 minute layover in Barnsley). In contrast, the last Monday to Saturday journey between Chesterfield and Matlock is retimed to run 15 minutes earlier at 2220 (presently 2235) with the return working also likewise retimed to leave Matlock at 2250 (2305) and revised to terminate in Chesterfield Coach Station (presently this extends to Cavendish Street)
- Journeys from Sheffield to Chesterfield and Matlock will move to Stand D4 in Sheffield Interchange, presently using Stand B4

Stagecoach Timetable also now online
Confirms the stand changes in Sheffield - towards Barnsley, it will use Stand C1 which will be shared with the X78 towards Doncaster. Likewise, in Meadowhall, Chesterfield/Matlock-bound journeys will share the X78 stand (Stand A4).

Also due to roadworks, there are some major changes to services 57 (Sheffield to Stocksbridge via Hillsborough and Ouightbridge), 201 (Chapeltown to Stocksbridge) and SL1/SL1a (Middlewood Park and Ride to Stocksbridge via Deepcar).
Breaking it down, it goes as followed:
The 57 will only operated between Sheffield and Wharncliffe Side only. Additional shuttle journeys on the 57 will operate between Wharncliffe Side and Middlewood Park and Ride. The early morning Sunday journeys on the 57 will be split in two - normal timetable between Stocksbridge and Deepcar (3 journeys from Stocksbridge, with one return journey from Deepcar), while a revised timetable will be in place between Wharncliffe Side and Sheffield to the same frequency (3 into the city and 1 outbound journey). The shuttle journeys will run twice hourly Monday to Saturday daytime (three times an hour at peak times) until approximately 2200 when it drops to hourly. On Sundays, the shuttle will run every 20 minutes until 1808, after which there's a forty minute gap at which point it drops to hourly (matching the SL1).
The SL1/SL1a will operate via Leppings Lane, Halifax Road, Penistone Road and Stocksbridge Bypass to Deepcar, before then operating their normal routes around Deepcar and Stocksbridge, returning to Middlewood via the outbound route reversed. Evening/Sunday journeys will continue to serve the areas of Stocksbridge normally served by the 57 during the day.
The 201 will be extended to Deepcar via the 57 route to cover these areas at other times. It will operate normally between Stocksbridge and Chapeltown.

Derbyshire County Council have now put the timetable online

To save on dead mileage, the first journeys from Calver Sough to Buxton (Schooldays as the 65a via Buxton Hospital and Community School, Saturdays and School Holidays via the normal 65 route) and the last journey from Buxton on Monday to Saturday will start/finish in Chesterfield and run as service 66 between Chesterfield and Tideswell (the last departure from Buxton will connect with an X17 in Chesterfield allowing more time in Buxton (the last direct Buxton to Sheffield will leave at 1532 on schooldays as a 65a, and 1603 Saturdays and Holidays as a 65).
With the exception of the aforementioned last direct journey, the rest of the Monday to Saturday journeys are extended to Meadowhall along the same route as the X17.

Scania L94UB 613/7/9/31/67 are in the process of transferring from Trent Barton- 619/31 are already at Halfway.

Their intended role is to replace the five remaining Centros - SB120s 796/9/800 and MAN 1198/1200.

631 is the odd one out, being a former ‘Skylink’ example. The rest were formerly on the ‘i4’.

First West Yorkshire

Following on from 'Zest 503', the 'Calder Connect' and 'Holme Valley Connection', a four version of branded livery is being rolled out from Huddersfield depot - B7TL 37029 along with B7RLEs 69558/61 have been repainted into a light blue fronted version of the Olympia 2 to launch a new brand reportedly for services 370/1 (Lindley to Rawthorpe or Dalton via Huddersfield) and possibly service 372 (Almondbury - Lindley via Waterloo and Huddersfield).

RE: Yorkshire Bus Operations
Full breakdown of the changes from South Yorkshire PTE

In summary:
The partnership routes 1/1a and 52/52a are cut back in a similar way to the 120 - Stagecoach’s 1 will serve High Green at all times while First’s 1As will terminate at Chapeltown during the Monday to Saturday daytime. Likewise, and in a twist to the longstanding sharing on the service, Stagecoach’s daytime journeys on the 52 will be cut back to terminate at Crookes (First’s 52As will continue to serve Hillsborough and Wisewood), reducing the number of Stagecoach bus services to Hillsborough during the daytime from 7 an hour to just 1 (the hourly 57).
In Doncaster, a major recast sees the 57/58 changed into circulars - the 57a/c will additionally serve Doncaster Sheffield Airport replacing the X4.
Apart from the 203, all of the Yorkshire Tiger services are passing to Stagecoach (the 92 passes to Stagecoach from this Sunday the 5th August) - Barnsley will operate the 7, 23/23a, 24 and 92 (requiring 4 buses) while the 72/72a will be operated by Ecclesfield depot (2 Solos)

Sister 35110 (YN06 WCL) and slightly older 34722 (YN05 XOB) have been reinstated at Chesterfield from Ecclesfield reserve as the extra vehicles following the addition of the 65. As well, due to reduced vehicle requirements due to summer reductions and the 57/201/SL1/SL1a route work amendments, Ecclesfield-based E200 36415 (YN11 FFG) has been on loan back to its original home of Rawmarsh, while Ecclesfield Reserve Solo 47467 (YN07 OSE) has been loaned to Chesterfield.

And now, sadly, news of another Chesterfield Dart repainted into the mostly white livery...…
34720 (YN05 XNZ), formerly Chesterfield Transport liveried (and 'East Midlands' 1956-1972 Ivory/Cream before that) has now reverted to standard fleet livery (albeit the revised version) after 7 years in historic liveries

A pair of Enviro200MMCs are due in the near future for York, to replace the two older MPDs on the 42 (York to Selby and Drax) due to reliability issues - they are being leased, so will remain in dealer white with 'York and Country 42' vinyl branding applied.

The first of the 3 additional Volvo B5TLs for Coastliner landed at Harrogate Starbeck depot on Friday - this is BN68XPR. These 3 will replace B9TLs 422-4, which are likely to be moved elsewhere within the group. Newer 425/6 (BF62 UXV/W) have been transferred to Rosso following the reduction in PVR at Malton.

'Harrogate Connect' Versas 211/2 (YJ12 MZU/V) have transferred to York depot alongside older former Lancashire examples 201/2/5 - despite the original plan of using B10BLEs, it seems the plans for York have changed to using the redundant Versas.

In a change of plan, Sheffield Olive Grove have today received B7RLE 69017 from Buses of Somerset. This, of course, returns it back to its previous Home Depot having been based at Olive Grove prior to the transfer to the South West. In exchange, Leeds are now receiving 69219 - which was originally the eighth intended example due for South Yorkshire from Somerset.

Confirmed fleet movements following service changes at the weekend:
  • Following the reduction in PVR at Rawmarsh depot with the changes to the 217/218 (now 218/218a), Pointer Darts 35233/4 have transferred to Chesterfield.
  • As a result of the transfer of the aforementioned Darts, plus the recent reduction of Frequency of Chesterfield service 10 (Chesterfield Elder Way to Newbold), frees up enough Darts and E200s to convert the 39 (Grangewood Farm to Holme Hall Estate via Chesterfield Town Centre) to larger vehicle operation. As such, 5 Solos have been transferred from Chesterfield to Ecclesfield (2) and Barnsley (3) for the former Yorkshire Tiger services. The only examples that is confirmed to still be at Chesterfield is, of course, 'MatlockBus' branded 47325.

Formerly branded for ‘your forty three’ (43 Chesterfield to Sheffield vi Dronfield), Scania N230UD/Enviro400 15827 is the first of a pair of Chesterfield examples to gain ‘aspire’ branding for service 77.

The second of Chesterfield’s has been confirmed as 15826 - a contrast in terms of specifications (Chesterfield’s duo being standard Stagecoach specification, Worksop’s two being the higher spec used for Lincolnshire’s ‘Inter Connect’ Services).
RE: Yorkshire Bus Operations
Why are other divisions continually creating new brands, yet the North East is getting rid of them? I thought it was national policy not to have them, now?
RE: Yorkshire Bus Operations
(10 Sep 2018, 10:48 am)markydh wrote Why are other divisions continually creating new brands, yet the North East is getting rid of them? I thought it was national policy not to have them, now?

I would think there are a number of reasons. For instance, the North East market is probably similar to (Greater) Manchester; bus users use buses because they can't access any other form of transport. Branding is pointless because people just want punctual and affordable buses to get to work, medical appointments and the shops. Also, they are fighting a losing battle (or actually they *aren't* fighting it) against the local media who think that no matter how a bus is adorned it is the primary cause of pollution in cities and the people who travel on them don't actually exist.

Additionally, branding has been drastically diluted by buses not being allocated to the correct routes. Understandable at peak times, but not at weekends.  The penny seems to be dropping at Stagecoach Manchester as the buses branded for the 76 are now being repainted into standard livery - with adverts hastily added in the case of 10044 at least.

Thanks to Steven Knight's 'Fleetnews Rambling' Page, the transferred Solos are 47317/8 (Ecclesfield) and 47319-21 (Barnsley). That leaves 47322-5 at Chesterfield - giving one spare on a weekday and two on Saturdays (the Matlock towns only operates Monday to Friday).

Supposedly another 96 Streetdecks due this year for Leeds to replace further Volvo/Geminis - likely this time to be the oldest B7TLs rather than more of the B9TL/Gemini 2s. Leeds fleet will more or less be Streetdecks, the Hybrid B5LHs and Streetlites by 2020 in line with the Clean Air Zone being brought in.

New details have emerged regarding some of the new batch of Streetdecks

From 15th October, First Leeds will be operating new service X26, linking the City Centre (the Station area) with the Thorpe Park Business Park via Crossgates. Initially running every 15 minutes, from 9th December it is reduced to every 20 minutes with the start of the X27 - virtually the same as the X26 apart from taking a different route between Crossgates and Thorpe Park. The timetable has been uploaded to Thorpe Park's website, showing a graphic of an Orange-branded 'Leeds City' Streetdeck.

Two main items of note:

Rawmarsh-based Dart 35228 was destroyed by fire in Rotherham Forge Island Bus Station last week - due to the nature of the fire, it is most certainly a write-off. As yet, no details on a replacement for it.

Chesterfield’s Gold E400MMCs appears to have entered service today, a photo having appeared on Facebook an hour ago of 11124 working a Matlock-Sheffield trip. Their entry into service will release the Gold Scanias for use on services 50/50a/50b (Chesterfield to Sheffield via New Whinnington, Eckington and Manor Top), and E400MMC 10662 back to Barnsley off loan. This also ‘in theory’ allows two MANs to be displaced, and also likely spells the end for the quarters of Scania Omnidekkas based at Chesterfield.

Confirmation that the majority are now in service. So far confirmed are:
Branded 11118-21/3/4 (11123/4 noted in service yesterday)
Unbranded 'spare' 11125 - this will take the place of 15195 on the 54 when not required on the X17
