Go North East: 2018/19 Financial Year Order Predictions

Deptford (35), Chester-le-Street (13/14/25/X22) and Gateshead (93/94) appear to the be beneficiaries of the cascades on the back of the order.

Streetlite onto the 35 is probably a given. Saltwell Parks onto Loops, with Chester receiving Streetlite and B9s quite plausible too. Slotting in Omnicity and any retained Omnidekka not so easy.

Loops require 9 Vehicles while there are only 8 Saltwell Streetlites. Also the Electrics aren’t coming until next year And wasn’t it said all Solars would be withdrawn by end of the year?

Could StreetLites off the Red Kite not go onto the Loop?

11 streetlites for the 4 and mercs to riverside for the loop and to replace 5319

Or maybe for the X84/85?  The Mercs really aren't suited to this route (IMO)

For the avoidance of doubt, the order is as follows:

  • 28x StreetDeck for Consett - to upgrade services 15/15A (to be re-numbered X5/X15), services 45/46/47 (to be re-numbered services X45/X46/X47), service X31, and services X70/X71.
  • 2x StreetDeck for Crook - to supplement the increase in PVR from 19 May, and to replace the spare OmniDekka 6146.
  • 1x StreetDeck float - the UK's first 6-cylinder 7.7l engine model, to be trialled on all double-deck services in the region.
  • 3x ADL Enviro400MMC - to upgrade service X30
  • 11x ADL Enviro200MMC - to upgrade service 97.
  • 9x Yutong Electrics - to upgrade services 53/54.

  • The StreetDecks and ADL Enviro400s will all be to 'X-lines' specification.

This is in addition to the 2x Mercedes Sprinters on order to operate a new contract on behalf of the NHS in Newcastle City Centre, commencing from September. The order for this was announced internally to staff earlier this week.

So does this mean I might actually be able to catch a Streetdeck on the X21? I think in the past week I've been on one! It wouldn't be so bad if the Omnidekkas they put on had WiFi

Id imagine the extra 2 for Crook would just be in a standard Xlines livery. But at least I got my wish of the Red Kites going the way of the dodo! Those eyes are just wrong!

I can't see it myself. Not with the current frequency anyway.

Does the East Gateshead partnership still exist? They always liked a bit of positive PR, so would be surprised to see cascades of older vehicles and a reduced frequency.

Id expect to see new/newer vehicles and the frequency to be maintained.

When the ECW Olympians were allocated to the 93/94, I think the frequency was a lot lower than now.

A quick check of a timetable from that era might confirm either way.

If GNE can source another Versa, then the ex RK(x11) & PB(x3) StreetLites would most likely end up on the 58 & 12/12A with the 58 Versas + another (weekday PVR) going on the Loop. That would also allow 1x spare StreetLite to cover a PVR of x13

I personally can’t see the Mercs coming off the 12/12A

RE: Go North East: 2018/19 Financial Year Order Predictions

Personally would have chosen to order more than 3 E400s. They're forced to use a single decker or omnidekka as the spare for the X30 by not doing so.

It's just a case of what do you prioritise - capacity or specification?

Is the Toonlink Brand likely to survive just for 6/6A ? - Quite a small PVR for a branded route! , I'm assuming if X30/31, X70/71 become an X Lines brand, they will drop the Toonlink branding.

Just assuming they would keep it as the back end of the streetdecks are toonlink colours

And the 6 does need extra capacity

With GNE ordering some ADL products this year, do you think it will be a warning sign for Wrightbus to improve their offerings?

Might be wrong, but I doubt the toon link brand will survive. 5250 has been painted in corporate colours and the X30 gold/Green Xlines, would expect the X31/X70/X71 will be gold/Black Xlines. Might even get the X5/X15/X45/X46/X47 in black as well, though my first thought was red, but does red and gold go together?, and gold/blue for the X21?

I would say because MG doesn’t like the Streetlite, the E200 was a good option. Don’t think optare with the exception of the solo will get any orders moving forward. I do wonder what would operate the X30 in place of an E400 if 1is off the road, 6146 maybe?

Maybe saving red and gold for when X1 joins Xlines Tongue

As much as I despised the Red Kites branding, I disagree with just changing the name of a route to imply that it's now an express route. If they launched the X45/X46/X47 as express routes in addition to the 45/46/47 then I wouldn't have such an issue with it.

Agreed. Is it just the bit between central and the metro that's going to be non stop? If so then no doubt the 10 will go same way

I doubt they're actually going to bother changing anything, a simple rename. Job done!

In my eyes, you can only call a bus an 'express' service if there's a slow alternative, and if they're just rebranding routes, there isn't

RE: Go North East: 2018/19 Financial Year Order Predictions
I'd say that although rebranding the RK's to X-Lines arounds a bit bonkers, the non-stop element between MetroCentre and Newcastle could kinda justify the branding. And not only that, it'll give GNE greater flexibility regarding allocations too as well as providing a better customer experience.

My only concern over re-routing the TVT to make it all stopping (I think) would be the reliability of the short 10A and 10B. Hope GNE have the capacity to add extra resources to the TVT's should they need to.

Also, if an E400MMC was to be off the road, would an OmniDekka be allocated in place or would the X30 just do a diversion route to avoid the low bridge?

Personally I can see a streetlite, most likely 5451 to get allocated sending a decker on 16/A. Makes more sense than diverting it

I suspect 6118-21&6149-61 will go to PM for 1s with the 15 Gemini 2Hs going to either Chester or Riverside. That’s just a guess.

11x Streetlites (X45/6/7) to go to Riverside for 93/94 replacing last Solars and Some Versas.

The E4 Citaros to displace Omnilinks at Saltmeadows

The Omnilinks that have been displaced to go to Chester to displace Versas which along Riverside examples to go to Deptford to Replace the last Solars.

Coasters have not long had the Hybrids so I wouldn't think they'd be coming off any time soon. Plus, from what I've seen anyway, they don't seem to be struggling with the route
