I wonder what change they will be making to the X21, I wouldn't be surprised if they went back to terminating at Bishop Bus Station as apparently they've been losing money since extending it. Although there was talks of extending it West Auckland to better complete with the Arriva 6 as most passenger who go to Tindale carry on to either West or Cockfield

RE: Go North East: Upcoming Service Changes v2
Apparently on the 13th December 2010 (is that a typo as it says they effective from date is still 26 Jan 2020?) GNE registered 2 new X21 services but there's no start or end point listed
RE: Go North East: Upcoming Service Changes v2
Well here's my predicitions for the service changes:

- 310 re-routed via Hadrian Park all day

- TVT to serve all stops between Metrocentre and Newcastle

Noticed that a new service 311 has been introduced too alongside the 309 & 310!
RE: Go North East: Upcoming Service Changes v2
6 to return to half hourly along its entire route?

Its had major timing problems since last change on 29th July 2019.

There's been issues with timing on a lot of services with the changes that have happened over the past year or so. It seems they've been trying to streamline the services to save money, but at the expense of reliability.
As I mentioned above, since the X21 and 18 were combined, the reliability of what was the 18 route has gone to pot. After say 3pm you may as well ignore the timetable, it very rarely runs on time because of the traffic along the route, there have have been several occasions where they've just turned it around in Bishop because of how late they are, which never happened with the 18 unless there was an incident with the bus.
Obviously I don't have exact figures, but I'd guess a good 75%+ of passengers who travel on that part of the route are just going between Woodhouse Estate and Bishop rather than travelling on to Newcastle, so they have little incentive to travel with GNE, in fact I'd be willing to bet that since they extended the X21, passenger numbers on that part of the route have decreased with people just using the Arriva 6 instead (that's what I'd do if I wasn't already paying for a GNE pass).

Having said that, it's really nice to have direct connection to Newcastle as it was always a pain changing, the X21 would pull away as the 18 was pulling into the bus station, and vice versa!

So are the x9/x10 buses going on the x84/x85 middle of next year, When those scanias get withdrawn? Or did I read the information wrong?

There are timing changes to the 6 to link it to another service, whether this includes going back to every 30 to Stanley too, I don't know, unlikely tho as the 6 doesn't carry many up to Stanley.

I would hope they do something about the sunnisides. No way can you do 20mph through whickham and remain on time, even if you pick nobody up.

Hopefully the new interworking will allow increased running times, although the introduction of more reliable buses would help too.

People actually take notice of the 20 limit in Whickham?

Yes... many of us religiously do. If you have a bump and you're over the limit, you're obviously going to get a bollocking, more so than if you were driving legally.

Be stupid not to!

Well I suppose so, but I've been on plenty of buses through Whickham where the driver has been going 30

I'm indifferent, I honestly prefer the drivers that have a heavy foot! (especially on the X21, some of the new drivers just dawdle along below the speed limit)
I was more making a point about the fact that I see very few people actually take notice of the 20 zone, it's common to even see Police drive through Whickham at 30

You, my friend, are deluded.

Speed limits are in place for safety, it's not up to us to alter them. My point is that we need more time to cope and to stop so many drivers speeding. More running time = less rushing around.

The more time spent rushing, the more bumps and issues for drivers. This is a very serious and real issue, which is experienced when someone ends up being hurt, or worse.

I honestly don't believe what I'm seeing you say and advocating speeding or driving "with a heavy foot". It's disappointing to say the least that this has to be explained.

In the case of the X21 I was talking about drivers actually driving the speed limit, it's probably because they don't know the roads as well as the Crook drivers, but some of them drive infuriatingly slow.

As for the 20 zone in Whickham, I don't believe that it needs to be a 20 zone all the way through, some parts definitely, but the majority of it should still be a 30.

I wasn't advocating speeding, just that I'm indifferent whether people speed or not, and I used the term "with a heavy foot" to juxtapose the next point about drivers dawdling, not to take literally.
I actually really dislike going fast, I much prefer fast acceleration to raw speed

I would've guessed the Mercs displaced by the upcoming service changes, as well as the interworking. Guessing it means another brand being lost as well as the Toon Links.

Although, it depends on the Newcastle LEZ really doesn't it, do buses have to be Euro 6 to not get fined? I imagine it would be easier to upgrade a Streetlite than a Merc.

Aren't the Streetlites already at Euro 6?
And doesn't the proposal for the LEZ say they have to be both Euro 6 and newer than 2012
My memory isn't the best so I could be wrong on both fronts!

Possibly, in regards to them being 2012 and newer, as the B9s that have been upgraded all have been the newer ones, although Stagecoach are keeping buses that are still older than 2012. I can't imagine it would be hard to upgrade any of the streetlites, they're not exactly dirty buses, and they're running basically the same engine as the newest E200s.

Neither can be upgraded - but there’s still a fair bit of time before every bus needs to be Euro 6, so yes, it will be Citaros allocated to the 6.
