The way the running boards are for the 4 at the moment means layover time is always hit and miss. Some get 3mins and others get 8/9mins at Houghton. I suspect the May changes will have a significant impact on this.

All the late (2030 onward) 4s which run down to Houghton get 19mins sit. Every driver I know takes the time at Lidl as if you sit at Houghton Church you're taking your windows and life in your hands!

From what I seen today, all of the Coast Road routes were ghost trains (as they should be during these times).

I'd imagine GNE could do the following for the 309 & 310 if it still allowed social distancing in terms of capacity:

- 309 reduced to hourly getting 57 mins x Blyth and 55 mins x Newcastle. Departs Blyth at xx:43 arr Newcastle xx:40. Departs Newcastle xx:45 arr Blyth xx:40

- 310 reduced to hourly and serving Hadrian Park. Departs N/Shields xx:25 arr Newcastle xx:10. Departs Newcastle xx:15 arr N/Shields xx:58

- 311 withdrawn

I don't know how viable it would be, but I think they need to reduce the frequency quite substantially, 2 hourly at most on most services, with increased service only at peak time, and then running those services with higher passenger numbers only with deckers, and if more than 50% capacity, run two at a time to spread people out as much as possible

Surprised to see the 700/702 running, i thought they would of stopped it due to the uni's been off.

I wonder why the 29 is running a Saturday timetable. It not a secured service anymore is it?

To be honest they need to look at the 28B and the 29.... They run a similar route more or less between Kibblesworth and Gateshead via Low Fell and both services running hourly but with just 10 minutes (or even less) seperating them.

Looking at the comments and some of the visitor posts on GNE's Facebook the last few days I think many people are totally missing the bigger picture.

It's good to see a number of comments appreciating the fact that the main role of the company at the minute is to keep key workers connected. Running a bare minimum service in order to do this while losing money on it is not easy for a private company to do with no government support (as yet). Yes it might mean that it may longer to get to and from work but as long as you can still get there that's the main thing.

Staff sickness among drivers and engineers also needs to be factored in. Hopefully the reduction in service will mean that even in worst case scenarios, this will be easier to maintain and ensure reliability.

Looking at the timetable for the 27, anyone know what the bus will be doing after it arrives into Shields at 43....not due to depart til 20......cant see any other interworkikg in between unless I've missed it.

With the reduced services plus the school requirements, they'll probably need no more than 300 vehicles, even allowing for spares, so that's over half the fleet in mothballs. The regular services seem to need about 200 buses.
Some opportunities for interworking appear to have been missed, with a lot of vehicles having long layovers at Consett, and the aforementioned 27.
The 2 also appears to wait at Silksworth Vicarage for a long time too.

I’m pretty sure the homework would be done so the minimum number of buses will be deployed. Maybe a lot of inter-working patterns will be done and branding will without doubt go out the window until things return to normal.

To be fair, the scheduling team who would ordinarily have several months to prepare timetables, duties and rosters are now being given a day or two to prepare things.

I fully agree, and think a remarkable job has been done in the time allowed. Far from being a criticism, I feel everyone from drivers to backroom staff has worked tirelessly to provide a service for key workers whilst dealing with diminishing returns, and any anomalies are inevitable given the speed at which the team has worked. Well done to all.

Indeed and a shame but it's the only way we might get back to something like normality.

I work from home anyway and all the paperwork that I would normally have to go to the office to pick up is just being scanned and emailed, so if anything I've been busier than normal as I can't use my normal excuse of "I can't carry that much on the bus" ?

I can see this being at least 3 months, with more if people stop adventuring out unnecessarily , lock down should of been a few weeks prior before prime minister announced it, if there still can’t contain it due to inconsiderate people then it will be a full lockdown

Yep! Very close. I've not studied the timetables in detail, but the times of Washington's minibuses look broadly the same as Sunday service barring the 23 and earlier journeys so the PVRs listed are based on that. So I stand to be corrected
