Go North East service levels during the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic

Wonder where they would get parked?, they don't normally have all the coaches in at the same time Tongue.

(06 Apr 2020, 11:50 am)Wybus wrote I wonder if more buses will be going into hibernation, as from my calculations the PVR has dropped by another 11 buses

4/X20, 5, 11, 19, 309/310, X1 - all minus 1
81-86 - minus 2
Hexham services - minus 3

I'm interested to see what changes are happening at Gateshead, Sunderland and Chester-le-Street from Saturday 11th April.

Does anyone know how many buses are in service at the minute, after the above changes to the 5 etc.

The PVR reduced by a further 15 vehicles last Saturday (5 at Riverside, 3 at Hexham, 7 at Deptford). The closure of the Rainton Bridge offices, and a few more scholars services not being required, resulted in a couple more that you wouldn't have picked up on.

The final remaining coach on the National Express network is now no longer required too, as of yesterday. This means that the three remaining coaches at Deptford are surplus to requirements. The mothballed National Express coaches are predominantly parked up at Saltmeadows Road, although there are also two at Hexham and a handful at Volvo Washington.

The PVR reductions at the weekend have indeed resulted in more buses being parked up (but not fully delicensed yet):

Deptford
  • Volvo B9TL 6043, 6044, 6054, 6055
  • Optare Solo 680, 681, 682
  • Volvo B11RT 7145, 7146, 7147

Hexham
  • Optare Solo 677, 721, 723

Riverside
  • Volvo B9TL 6115, 6116
  • Optare Solo 628, 651, 724

Currently 236, but:
  • two Solos at Consett are only used on staff shuttles
  • one Solo at Deptford is only used on staff shuttles
  • four Streetlites at Deptford are only used on rail replacements on behalf of Northern, acquired at short notice last week.

25 - reduced from hourly to every 2 hours
28 - reduced from hourly to every 2 hours
29 - withdrawn
30 - reduced from hourly to every 2 hours
33 - now only runs Sunderland to Docks not to Vicarage Estate
38C - now runs as a 38
700/702 - both reduced from every 30 mins to hourly each
Q1/Q2 - no longer runs Gateshead to Newcastle via Quayside
V1 - withdrawn
V5 - withdrawn
V9 - withdrawn
X5 - Lanchester to Durham section reduced from hourly to every 2 hours
X10 - reduced from hourly to every 190 minutes
X21 - now only runs Bishop Auckland to Durham continuing as a 21 to Newcastle
X30 - Consett to Stanley section withdrawn
RE: Go North East: Latest News & Discussion - March 2020

20 – 5 PVR -  minus 1 PVR
23 – 1 PVR – minus 1
25 – 2 PVR – minus 1

Thanks for that information and working out Michael friend.. Your friendly friend.
RE: Go North East: Latest News & Discussion - March 2020
I think it’s far more complex than that. The 30 looks to interwork with the X5, the 25 with the 28/28B.

The Consett and Stanley services look like they will be interworking as well as does the M6 at the Metrocentre, possibly with the 67?

The 2 reduces from 3 buses to 2 buses

Ah never thought of that, probables will be, so could be even more buses off the road then.

Definitely looks like 30 will interwork with X5 at Lanchester, M6 with 67 at MetroCentre and 6 with 10A at Eldon Square. 25, 28 and 28B might also interwork with 34A at Chester-le-Street.

In Sunderland 33A and 38 also interwork. Not surprised about frequency cut for 20 at Shields end.

21 interworks with 14 and X21 on opposite half-hours with a PVR of 7.

I believe the 34A is Deptford's side, not ours.
RE: Go North East: Latest News & Discussion - March 2020
looking on bustimes.org, it looks like the 34's are interworking with 28's with Coast and Country Streetlites, hence why all the 34's are all split in Chester le Street.

Thanks for confirming it, how many buses does the interworking take out of service, as i had 33 (that includes last Saturday changes), so that's gonna increase now.

Any idea what buses will be took off the road?

RE: Go North East: Latest News & Discussion - March 2020
Info about allocation changes next week, from Dan on the Busesnortheast facebook page.

The X30 & X71 services at Consett, will be revised this weekend to operate with minibuses which are now surplus to requirements following service reductions (with the Streetlites re-deployed at Deptford to allow fuel-hungry double-decks to be taken out of service).

So:

X30/X71 will be solo
20/56 will be Streetlite (20 currently allocated FAB 56 deckers)

Do you know if those streetlites would be the Prince Bishop batch currently allocated to the 4/ 50 or the other ones being redeployed?

Could be, i forgot about the Red Kite buses, they're the ones currently allocated to the X30 & X71 so i would imagine so.

There's 6 Red Kite Streetlites currently in service.

Just seen 4 Red Kites heading down the A691 all in a row! (Towards durham)

Seems they're off somewhere!
RE: Go North East: Latest News & Discussion - March 2020
It took all my strength to not have a ride on the StreetDeck running on the 1A today, I could see it from the window tempting me, but I resisted!
I suppose with all the odd workings at the minute it's a good opportunity to try out vehicles on routes that wouldn't normally be allocated that type

I hope that's tounge and cheek as it's definitely not a good opportunity to go riding buses for the sake of it. I've seen that there's been some bus drivers complaining about people doing the exact thing on social media and saying it on the lines they want to tell them where to go but obviously can't. Stay safe people and don't put other people's lives at risk for the sake of it there's plenty time to ride a bus unless you actually have a genuine reason to do so. (this isn't a dig at you here streetdeckfan - just in general)

Even if you don't care about taking risks wit your own health, have some respect for the drivers who still need to work to get other key workers to work and people who don't have other options for travel out for medical appointments and food shops.
