I hope GCT's expansion and award of the contract to operate service 6 has not come at the detriment of its other contracts!

(31 Mar 2021, 12:55 pm)Adrian wrote According to the Dft website, they should be providing timetable, location and basic fare data by now: https://publish.bus-data.dft.gov.uk/guid...uirements/Yeah there's quite a few still not showing location data on tracking websites. It's not hard to do really, albeit there is a financial burden, but as it's a legal requirement then it falls into the same category as other things you should be spending on. Plus it comes in useful for passengers, after all!
However, nowt but fresh air when you have a look under Central Taxis Gateshead on the BODS website: https://data.bus-data.dft.gov.uk/avl/?q=&organisation=551&status=&submitform=submit&ordering=-modified

At 15:25 ( Whitley Bay Metro) it drops out, then operates 552.

SG19HOA operates W1 from 07:30-08:53, then operates service 6, which then drops onto W1 at 15:30 until 18:25.
THIS ARRANGEMENT IS AGREED WITH NEXUS, as they wanted a larger bus on 552.
553 06:53 from Wallsend is operated by YX20OCM, then onto W1A at 07:35.
553 16:46 from Freeman Hospital is operated by a Merc Strata off 84/84A.

Same when there ran the 126 with mercs and in service missing out big chunks of route , and Vosa didn’t shut them down.
To many nit picking on GCT, to much anti for independents, should be Lucky that these independents are still running which haven’t been swallowed up or ran off the road, otherwise the top 3 bus companies in the area will charge what there like to the local authorities for contracts which they deemed is not for profit for there shareholders to pay for there second homes and mistresses

(03 Apr 2021, 2:25 pm)Dan wrote I don't think anyone is 'anti-independents' - what doesn't wash nowadays is poor operation, and that is the same regardless of who the operator is, be it the larger three, or anyone else.
JH Coaches and Stanley Travel are two excellent examples of SME operators who invest in their fleet, are smartly presented, have kind and courteous drivers, and seem to run their contracts well. They mightn't have all the same 'niceties' such as free Wi-Fi and power sockets as Go North East or Arriva, for example, but are really professional and seem to be doing well for themselves (even if that's in other areas - not the local bus scene tender market, where Gateshead Central Taxis almost have the monopoly).
A-line Coaches have also significantly invested in the last year or two, have created a new corporate identity (even if I'm personally not keen on their battleship grey livery), and have fulfilled the BODS requirements, so their services can now be tracked in real-time.

I do hope they end up getting more contracts.

Though to be honest a lot of school services at the moment are restricted to school pupils only, it's not as if they are likely to pick up passengers when it's heading away from the school.Be amazed how often this happens especially on last runs of the day and scholars, I've even seen GNE not run to the end of scholars routes before.
