I'm not aware of the route, but deckers are shorter than full size single deck buses, so they can generally get around tighter routes.

What's stranger as the 42 had an Omnicity on all day today and the 42A had 2 on yesterday but got took off at Killingworth. Yet the 42 yesterday had a decker on and stayed on after it got pit on till it finished service. Does Go North East not want Scania Omnicity on the 42A or something

If a branded bus came available through the day I'm sure GNE would have preferred that to replace the unbranded one abd those boards may have been the most convenient to do so or maybe the omnicities developed faults.

42A are secured from Dinnington to Kingston park and requires euro 5 vehicles, most, if not all of the Percy main omnicity are euro 4.

Does it? Obviously for social distancing it does, but the 74 isn't that busy anyway. The Citaros are not as fuel efficient as the Solos either.

Anyone know for sure if 5304 is permanent on the 74?

Tbh it would be better as 5304 doesn't have a set allocation at Hexham so making it a full time allocation on the 74 would be better. I don't know tbh I don't know Hexham allocation that well

Nope, just very short of serviceable minis at the moment.  No longer have 721 or 723, ad122 is now in season, and a couple of the usual minis have been VOR most days this week.

5304 is the spare bus for services X84/85.

Yes, but as xpm said, there have been a couple of Solos off service this week resulting in 5304 being allocated to a minibus route (the 74).

Hexham are fairly limited in what they can do at the moment, as service 680 needs to be a full-size single-deck at school times, service 688 needs to be a double-deck at school times, and other routes have a size limit (ie can’t be anything but a minibus).

How long is 5304 going to be on the 74? Just this week?

Scania OmniCity 5241 was allocated earlier this month. Could an OmniCity not be permanently allocated? Sometimes a single deck vehicle is appropriate for the 74. Mostly it's not busy, occasionally it has been almost full though and now we have social distancing to consider.

When does the contract expire for Go North East operating the 74? Perhaps the route could be slightly amended to serve Fenham instead of Cowgate?
RE: Go North East: Rare & Odd Workings - April 2021
What benefit would it be to GNE to serve Fenham when numerous (and more frequent Stagecoach services) pass through the area already. Once past Westerhope the 74 prob picks up very few (if any) passengers on the way into Newcastle. And they're likely to be pass users who just catch the first bus that turns up.

A closer link to service X84/X85 at Fenham/West Road at the infrequent times of the 74. The same could be said of serving Cowgate, but I expect it could pick up more passengers on the route through Fenham into Newcastle instead of straight up Stamfordham Road. Perhaps run non-stop from Westerhope to Fenham to keep the same journey time as now. Just an idea, follow the 63 route instead of the 62 route into Newcastle.
