Oh dear. Is it Fri/Sat/Sun?

Thinking I'll book the time off work as my new car isn't being delivered to the dealer for another 2 weeks.

Solidarity and all that, can't remember the last major strike. Would it have been when OK stepped in?

Any idea of contingency plans etc?

Currently it is suppose to be Friday 15, Monday 18 and Saturday 23, but with all things like this, it can be called off if needed to be.

Sorry, got no idea about any plans yet as to what will be running

As long as Stagecoach are unaffected, I'm fine to get to my exam...

More likely to be a Pointer 2 Dart. As soon as it reaches its terminus in town and everyone alights, I'd love to see it blow up.

DAILY DIGEST: 09/03/13

- Deptford's vehicles have started to undergo some coding updates so that they too now have a coloured "square" behind the number of the service that it is operating. Examples can be shown in the photos below:
5313 (Prince Bishops) (Dan's Bus Photos)
5298 (Laser) (Dan's Bus Photos)

- Ex-"TEN" Mercs 5310/9 have now gained the updated "Crusader" branding. Examples can be shown in the photos below:
5310 (Dan's Bus Photos)
5319 (Dan's Bus Photos)

- Odd allocations proved to be quite extravagant today. Those odd allocations that have been recorded on Flickr so far this evening can be viewed below:
"The OK Expressway" branded 5232 on "Lime" service 8. (peter_b2008)
"Cobalt Clipper" branded 5250 on service 9. (peter_b2008)
"Fab Fifty Six" branded 4935 on "SimpliCity" service 36. (peter_b2008)
"Prince Bishops" branded 5217 on service 38B (also resulting in the odd working of "Drifter" service 61 too. (Dan's Bus Photos)
"South Tyne" 8252 on "MetroLink" service M1. (ADAM'S NORTHEAST BUSPHOTOS)
"South Tyne" 8520 on "Washington Street Shuttle" service W6. (ADAM'S NORTHEAST BUSPHOTOS)
RE: Go North East
Odd day allround for allocations.

Traffic seemed to be playing hell with things too, I passed 3 X21's through Birtley Durham Rd, assumingly on diversion due to severe traffic on the bypass, Birtley was just as bad until you got past the traffic lights at the library.

At around 11 this morning at one point Birtley Station Lane stop had FOUR 21's, a Nexus 23, a Pronto, an X22, a very late X24 and an X2 all within a cars reach of each other. I thought I'd stumbled upon a rally!

Excuse the awfulness of this spot but one of the South Tyne buses was on the W(something) yesterday too. I only know this because it pulled out infront of me at the entrance to the B&Q roundabout!

This strike could throw up some interesting workings/pics. Join the pickets and sneak a look in the depot Big Grin`

If it has the potential to be anything like Boxing Day, I'll definitely need to be out getting photos! Shame that won't be possible until the Saturday that was mentioned though...
RE: Go North East
I'm confused with whole strike, are GNE operating the services or will the likes of Stagecoach and Arriva have to take over operation of services for those particular days mentioned. Someone explain to me so I understand.

Note there was a South Tyne Cadet on the X88 but I missed getting a photo by mere seconds of getting into The Galleries, god knows what was on the 88/88A then

Yeah I think you've deleted your account, because I can see your comment on the South Tyne W6 photo, but I can't click on your name and when I typed it in the search bar it didn't show up Tom.

A strike means no buses for most and a skeleton for the others with non union staff or managers driving.

There'll be no replacement. Mass disruption is the aim.

Someone with better knowledge may know but the last full depot strike involved OK running routes y o gain business

Should be fun for those who rely on the buses, eh? ;-)

You know where I can see any photos of that strike?

Wasnt it Gardiners/Scarlet band/Bell Bros did the 220 via Hall Lane in Houghton while Go Ahead was on strike, and when northern came back off strike the operators stayed on and eventually turned the service into a 222, i remember ok travel doing the 194, and Busways did the 126, 136 and 535.

I can remember OK doing stuff.

Didn't OK buses carry Northern logo's during the strike? Sure GNE hired them in. Honestly can't remember though.

It's tough on passengers but if there's a ballot and the majority back a strike I have to support that, it's tough out there. It's just a shame that you can predict the backlash from fairly ignorant Facebook and other punters

Ok buses didnt carry northern names on 194, there were plain white with Ok Travel on the front and sides, i remember that busways passes were valid on the 126/136. OK Travel and Busways came off Northern routes when there came off strike, can anybody remember how long the strike went on for?, when Scarlet Band/Gardiners/Bell Bros did the 220 it was every 20 minutes, when Northern came back on Gardiners pulled off the 220, but Bell Bros and Scarlet Band stayed on with a 30 minute frequency and eventually changed into a 30 minute service and renumbered 222. Dont think that other bus operators will be taking on Northern routes since if the strike goes ahead as its only 1 day strikes.

Probably a stupid question, but will this include things like scholars buses and the 'Nexus' services?
RE: Go North East
More than likely get called off anyway I think, look at it this way would GNE really want to lose out on 3 days travel takings, which I assume would be quite a substantial amount of money for that small period.

As for who will operate the services if does go ahead I haven't a clue, I can see Nexus although some may say it nothing to do with them, stepping in and sorting it all out.

I would think Independent companies like Weardale would operate a few services if need be like what they do for Arriva on Boxing Day. I can also see Arriva operating some services as GNE operates some of there services on boxing day also, so they could return the favour so to speak.

Just going to have to wait and see what happens.

It all depends how many drivers are in the unions that are striking, I'd guess.

If the driver of Billy's school bus is striking - who's going to be there to drive the bus? Having said that, it may be in Go North East's interest to get another driver to know the route before the strike who isn't going to be striking so that those services go unharmed. As they aren't commercial, Go North East really can't make the decisions!

I'll have a word with a few people, see what I can gather. Until then, someone else on this forum may have a more certain answer. Smile

A strike is meant to cause as much havoc as possible so that a company sees the views of the employees. Wasn't there a strike in 2009 or so that caused Washington and Deptford to have a substantial amount of services cut off? Only the main services stayed on, but even they had their frequency reduced massively. Think that was something to do with drivers rejecting a 2% pay rise or something along those lines - they wanted a higher pay rise. I'm not sure what the result of the strike was (whether the drivers got their requested pay rise or had to stick with the 2%) but I'm fairly positive it would have been the former rather than the latter.

It's all to do with Nexus really. On Boxing Day, they're the ones that have the services secured for the day. They take them on, just ask for GNE or whoever else to operate them. If Nexus have the money to splash, they'll help members of the public out. All goes down well in their name at the end of the day, doesn't it? VOSA registrations though... Hmm...

(10 Mar 2013, 2:49 pm)idiot wrote anyone else think it should be 36x?! x36 hasn't not long being in use!

Always disliked having the 'X' at the end of the service number. Something about it really bugs me - doesn't quite have the same ring as the 'X' in front and then the number! Doubt it'll be confusing though - they barely follow the same route, do they?

I really hope they don't strike - or if they do, just having everything on a reduced Sunday service or something like that.

Thanks Daniel Smile

See above - edited my post.
I'll try and find details of that strike in 2009 or so.

Yes, but some people are easily confused.
