September Service Changes

RE: September Service Changes
(17 Sep 2021, 11:08 pm)Rapidsnap wrote Maybe they are withdrawing these services early because they need the drivers elsewhere.

Mind there isn't any mention of it on the GNE website, hopefully people don't turn up in Newcastle or Washington tomorrow expecting to go to Scarborough. It isn't even mentioned in the short notice cancellations.

Cancellation with effect from next weekend - making this weekend the last two runs of the season.

Could these 2 surplus streetdecks be sent to Washington in red rear for the extra pvr from the x1 extensions? Depends if the extensions stays after a few months , as the X1 used to start at Peterlee many years ago, As there be the same spec than 6303 etc?, or are there getting a black rear for extras for consett depot?

RE: September Service Changes
(17 Sep 2021, 7:11 am)Storx wrote Personally I don't see the issue with the 24. There won't be many people going from Durham to Hartlepool throughout and unless the whole villages get on in Ludworth etc then there's no demand for a quicker service really. In a similar way there won't be many people going from Blackhall to Durham.

imo. it's more for serving.

Oakeside - Durham
Oakeside - Peterlee
Shotton Collery and all the villages inbetween service - Durham
Peterlee - Hartlepool

Shotton Collery and Durham have a quicker service on the 22 to Peterlee so it's only the 4 small villages Sherburn, Shadwell, Ludworth and Haswell and there's probably 5k between them (in other areas of the country they wouldn't have a service at all especially on evenings and Sundays).

You could bring that 25 back, but the 24 wouldn't be running in the evenings so that's the compromise and the estates of Peterlee, which there's more passengers anyway wouldn't have a direct service to Hartlepool.
Granted, the villages between Durham and Peterlee probably do have a lower population than Oakerside. But I'm not sure that means our transport needs should be disregarded and think ourselves lucky we have a service. Judging by Arriva's timetables and ticketing options, I'm apparently supposed to want to travel to Durham - a journey I only ever make if I absolutely have to and usually by car because it's generally impracticle to use the bus for the reasons I go in that direction.

When I was still youthful, the 241 ran hourly Durham - Hartlepool via Oakerside, the 242 ran hourly Durham - Hartlepool via Haswell and the 243 was the hourly evening and Sunday route that served both.  If I'd lived in Ludworth in those days, I'd have always opted for the 242 where possible and be more inclined to catch a bus to Peterlee or Hartlepool than I am now. Weather and time dependant, I'm far more inclined to walk the hour and a half to Peterlee, the 4 hours to Hartlepool or 20 minutes to Thornley for the 57. I don't expect Arriva or anyone else to lay on a service purely for me. So I'm quite content on using the car. Under current timetable and ticketing options, my 15 year old diesel Volvo is always going to be option number 1.

Not really.

It’s bad enough repurposing the four StreetDecks from the X5/15 after such a short period - but at least there’s logic and rationale (i.e preparing for the Clean Air Zone) behind that.

There would be absolutely no point in swapping StreetDecks for Volvo B5s, when the B5s were put on the X21 to improve reliability (and have done so successfully) - just to then put StreetDecks back on after a year or so.

Moreover, DFDS (when it runs) needs four buses, not two, but at this moment in time it isn’t even running. It would be cheaper to upgrade older buses to Euro 6 status and I’m not sure why 6334 and 6335 would be taken out of a frontline role on X-lines when they’ve just been repainted and refurbished specifically for that purpose.

Not sure what the fascination is in upgrading the 25 back to double-deck but loadings do not warrant double-deck buses to be allocated.

The weekday PVR of the 93/94 is actually 7.

Let’s get this thread back on-topic (September service changes) and if we really want to speculate on the allocation of vehicles, keep that for another thread.

Are you able to confirm the future allocation of 6065-6070? The September service changes and subsequent reallocations seem to have left these vehicles high and dry with no obvious future use.

4 of these I believe are to be Xlines yellow to replace 6304-07 on the X5/X15

Ah I see, I misread Dan's post as inferring that these weren't actually going onto the X5/X15. So if 6304-7 aren't going on the 25 will be interesting to see where they do end up!

6376 / 6377 - X1
Then have the 7 for spares between the 21, X21 (peak extras), Consett and Washington maybe? Don't believe there's any spares for the 21 atm and the X21 peak services are ran by Omnidekka's usually.

Doesn't seem too sensible having the brand new Streetdecks running around as spares and having 2 standard interior Streetdecks on the X1.

It still seems slightly perplexing having 16-reg Streetdecks running around as spares given they're only 5 years old while the 47/47A is being given the B9's. I suppose if the reliability of the 6301-7 batch is questionable it makes sense.

I'd guess 6363 might be repainted for the X1 then 6376/77 as X-Lines spares there. The other spare light-green Streetdeck kept as a branded spare or 6331 given a black repaint. 6336/38-40 used as remaining X-Lines spares at Consett. 6301-7 spread across Chester (for 21/X21 spares), Consett and Washington. Cobalt and Coast 6102-6117 (6100/01 spare), Cityrider 6088-6098 (6087/99 spare), Crusader 6002-7/51-55 (6001/50 spare), Ten 10A/B 6077-6085 (6086 spare), 10 6071-6076 (6049 spare), 47/47A 6043-6048 (6064 spare), Diamond 6056-63 (6069 spare).

Yeah I know what you mean like tbh using them as spares. Mind I'd probably prefer a B9TL over the early Streetdeck's but that's just me.

Yeah that's what I think pretty much really. Lot of spares at Consett, so maybe 6336 off the Hexham to leave another for the X84/X85 and 10 possibly. Be a bit risky just having 2 spares for everything but other than that pretty much what I expect.

Sorry, thought it was obvious that 6332/33 along with 6356-6362, I imagine, would be retained as part of the PVR of the X45/6 and as I said 6331 as a spare either in current livery or given a partial repaint with 6363 making up the PVR on the X1.

Yeah that's fair enough as far as the B9's go they're still in pretty good shape tbf. I put a few down at Consett cause I suppose they have a high number of double deck routes tbf, but yeah I wasn't sure about 6336 either tbh did consider putting it down for Hexham as well but then thought 2 spares across a PVR of 10 sounds enough and would 3 be overkill.

Oh really? Because I'm fairly sure when asked for the reason in the past (during one of the Facebook Lives I believe) it was said the B5s ended up on the X21 purely for operational reasons, and not to improve reliability!
RE: September Service Changes
Purely anecdotal but thanks to Gateshead Council's appalling approach to traffic management, I've used a few buses over the weekend and noticed something interesting with the 21.

Whenver the Brandon and Durham 21 pulls in people let it go and automatically go for the 21 - it's almost like they auto programmed to hop on the CLS one as they think Durham and Brandon is an express. I hopped on a D&B 21 from Gateshead this morning which was tailgated the whole way by a CLS 21 and people were either letting ours go past or in the case of the Cannon, walking past it to get onto a the CLS one.
Wistfully stuck in the 90s
RE: September Service Changes
62 seems to have good loadings atm

663 has -3 seats towards Sunderland

666 has 15 seats towards Peterlee

647 has 8 seats towards Sunderland
