New ARRIVA DURHAM COUNTY LTD Shuttle (Staff, Airport, Town Centre) Darlington Centre/Airport Darlington Arena
There's some Concerts at Darlington Arena next weekend so Arriva are providing Shuttle services to the site - although I understand they have been sub-contracted out to other operators, much like how the Let's Rock Shuttles yesterday were provided by Garnetts on behalf of Arriva.
Arriva North East: Upcoming Service Changes
From Sunday 29 August, we’re making some changes to services in the South East Northumberland and Tyne & Wear areas.
Service 35/35A Woodhorn to Morpeth
Monday to Saturday daytime journeys will change to operate to a revised route arrangement around Newbiggin and Woodhorn, as a result of changes to the timetable.
This new arrangement will see buses operate to a one-way loop of Newbiggin and Woodhorn, via Seacrest Road.
Service 35 will operate this loop in a clockwise direction (essentially running direct from North Seaton Roundabout to Woodhorn, then via normal route back towards Ashington/Morpeth), with a NEW Service 35A introduced, which will operate journeys anti-clockwise (as normal between Newbiggin and Woodhorn, but returning via the A189 to North Seaton Roundabout, then back to Ashington/Morpeth).
The frequency of service from Newbiggin and Woodhorn will continue to be twice per hour, however due to the revised route, these times may be slightly different to normal. This does also mean that Service 35A intending passengers do need to board the bus on the opposite side of the road to normal, when travelling towards Ashington/Morpeth.
When alighting, passengers can travel around the loop in either direction to reach their terminus.
Evening and Sunday buses will continue to run as present, terminating at Seacrest Road via Sandy Bay in both directions.
Service 43 – Newcastle to Cramlington and Morpeth
Service will be reinstated to operate up to every 15 minutes during Monday to Friday daytimes between Newcastle and Cramlington with journeys continuing to Morpeth hourly. There is no change to evening or Sunday timetables.
Service 44 – Newcastle to Dinnington
There will be minor timetable changes to this service during Monday to Friday daytimes.
Service 45 – Newcastle to Dinnington
There will be minor timetable changes to this service during Monday to Friday daytimes.
Service 55 – Newcastle to Forest Hall
Service will be improved to operate up to every 20 minutes during Monday to Saturday daytimes. There is no change to evening or Sunday timetables.
306 / 308 – Newcastle to Whitley Bay and Blyth
These services will reinstated to operate every 15 minutes on each route during Monday to Friday daytimes and every 20 minutes on each route on Saturday daytimes – giving a bus along the Coast Road every 7/8 minutes Mon to Fri daytimes and every 10 minutes Saturday daytimes. There is no change to evening or Sunday timetables.
Services X21/X22 Newcastle to Ashington and Newbiggin
These services will be reinstated to operate every 20 minutes on each route (or every 10 minutes on common sections of route) during Monday to Friday daytimes. Saturday journeys will continue to run every 30 minutes (or every 15 minutes along common sections of the route).
We urge passengers to read a more detailed update on this change here.
Service X30 – Newcastle to Blyth and Bebside (from Tuesday 31 August)
The following journeys will be reinstated;
0708 Bebside to Newcastle
1733 Newcastle to Bebside

RE: Arriva North East: Upcoming Service Changes
Question about the September changes
Am I right in thinking they are cutting most evening services. Looked in my local route and the last bus towards redcar quarter to 8 however there 2 later buses inbound last one arriving at half past 9?

It was reduced in June last year as part of the network changes. The (relatively new) X4A/64A pick up most of the route until late.

I'm not sure if there actually is any changes or its just renewing them. The timetables all throughout Covid were registered to run until the end of September, not sure why, so it could be just reregistering them to avoid them expiring.
I could be wrong though.
RE: Arriva North East: Upcoming Service Changes
Looking at timetables for Monday 27th September, there appear to be a few frequency/timetable changes across the ADC network:
2: Increase to every 10 minute frequency, with associated retiming of most journeys to allow for this.
4: Increase to every 15 minute frequency, with associated retiming of most journeys to allow for this.
6: Retiming of a few peak journeys.
17: Slight retiming of a few journeys.
23: Slight retimings of some journeys.
63: Increase to every 10 minute frequency.
X12: Resumes every 30 minute frequency north of Durham. Times otherwise appear the same.
X17: One extra journey in each direction.
X46: Retiming of some outbound evening journeys.
It's highly possible that I've missed some smaller changes, skipped a couple of routes, or routes haven't had the full data uploaded yet.

Arriva seem to have finally removed the yellow tape from the front seats and the 2m line on the floor

X16, yes - but I think the costs of a Morpeth-Newcastle short journey were marginal as opposed to a longer run, and Covid made it unviable. Before Covid, they could've got away with a half-hourly X15 between Alnwick and Newcastle, but perhaps not now.
X6 was a handful of journeys against Go North East's more regular 309/310/X39, and the X85 probably died a death with the introduction of X-lines.

The X6 and X85 were peak only services anyhow and had been withdrawn during the pandemic due to fewer commuters. In any case I can't imagine it being financially worthwhile Arriva reinstating them when GNE run the X39 at almost identical times to what the X6 used to and likewise with GNE's X85 - the demand for both services just isn't there.
As for the X16, it's more to do with the Newcastle to Morpeth corridor than anything else. While frequencies have been reduced on other services, the X16 withdrawal is essentially just the respective frequency reduction on the combined Newcastle to Morpeth corridor, with the stretch to Kirkhill quite happily added onto the end of the 2, as has been the case operationally already (and if I remember correctly was the case before the X16's inception). If the X16 had only ever run between Newcastle - Morpeth and had been numbered X14, X15 or X18 then it would be a simple frequency decrease, it's the separate number that makes it seem more significant.

RE: Arriva North East: Upcoming Service Changes
Surprised to see the 308 ex Blyth @0541 is still not running. Mondays to Fridays. Surely a key service like the 308 should have a bus arriving into Newcastle between 0630 and 0650 Mondays to Fridays?
GNE could take advantage of not only that but as for late evenings:
- 2240 310 ex Newcastle re-routed via Hadrian Park
- 2300 311 ex Newcastle withdrawn
- 2305 309 ex Newcastle introduced (formed from the above journey ex Hadrian Park @2229)
- 2320 310 ex Newcastle re-timed to depart at 2330 and re-routed via Hadrian Park
Obviously Arriva would still have the edge departing at 2312 but the 309 would take a lot of casual punters just waiting for the first bus after 2300.

The new timetables for the 22/23/24 are on Arriva site, but there’s no literature saying what the changes are and Arriva social media haven’t announced the County Durham bus changes but have for other areas

I don't believe there were actually changes. Some of the COVID variations had end dates so they had to re register them and that's what they are.
