RE: Gateshead Central Taxis
Just wondering whether anyone can provide the identities of the missing fleetnumbers used by GCT when reporting in bustimes. I'm guessing that these were used by vehicles which are no longer in the fleet, for example, 201/2/4-7/9, 211-3/5-7, 220, 301-7, as well as many deckers in the 4xx series.
I know that SJ17 VCU/V, BF18YRW were owned until quite recently, as were Solo SRs YJ64 DYS-W. I also have the following recorded as having operated for GCT in the past -
YX11 FRZ
YX61 BJK/O/U
YX12 CHN
SL16 YPE
SJ18 UTG
but would appreciate any help in matching up fleetnumbers and registrations. It would make an old gricer very happy !

Normal work still seems to be £11 an hour.
Bold move, in the midst of a national worker shortage.

Possibly a game changing rate of pay for bus drivers here in the North East.

Strange they haven't gone through with the 333 changes. I don't understand why they haven't
We have amended our plans in response to the feedback received. There was strong opposition to our plans to remove the service from the central part of the Fish Quay. As buses will now continue to serve the Fish Quay, it is no longer possible to bring forward the planned route change via Tynemouth Village
That was what was said about the 333 changes

Wonder if the financial penalties for potentially not running contracted services is a factor in this decision?

It seems that the 79 has failed to operate a single journey so far today. Quite a change from the near perfect reliability that JH coaches provided on the service.

RE: Gateshead Central Taxis
The 333 is basically what is left of the frequent services which ran beyond Northumberland Square to connect with the ferry. In the sixties there was the 7 / 8 from Blyth / Whitley Bay and 12 (I think ) from Whitley Bay via Preston Vill. There was also a service which ran to the Fish Quay. At that time the before the Tyne Tunnel opened there were 2 vehicle and foot passenger ferries shuttling backwards and forwards. Later on the routes became the 309 and 317 which were supplemented by open top 327 in the summer which ran along the seafront from Whitley Bay. There was a connecting open top service at South Shields which, if I remember correctly, ran to Seaburn. Later again the open topper became the 333 operated by Northern and Northumbria.

That service was numbered 555, I believe. At some point it started at Bedes World in Jarrow too

The 7, 8 and 12 did indeed run as you say. When the tunnel opened in 1967, Northern's service 60 which ran Sunderland - East Boldon - Whiteleas - Biddick Hall - Jarrow was extended to Blyth via Shields and the coast and operated jointly with the Tynemouth company. Later the 7 and 8 took on the number 60. Later when services in the area were numbered 3xx, the Blyth - Sunderland one became the 310 and the Blyth - Shields ferry one became the 309. For a time I was a conductor, and the Blyth - Sunderland run was my favourite. There was for many years a service to the fish quay running from Northumberland Square and numbered 14. This service only operated at work times. Eventually these runs were tagged onto the 12. The 12 eventually became the 317.
