Many of whom will be leaving at half-time, looking at the score!

What we need, is some buses that are congestion busting.
Lots of congestion issues today by the looks of things, but I'm not aware of anything particular that is on. I assume some of the Chinese New Year celebrations will be cancelled due to the wind, similar to how Durham Market was today.
Maybe the congestion-busting buses are the ones left at the depot during a skeleton service?
I was sat next to a couple at Heworth earlier, as we waited for two 4's to turn up together. One leaving not in service, leaving everyone to cram onto the other. Sounded like they'd been into Newcastle for food and drink, but after being sat for nearly half an hour in the cold, were at the point of questioning why they didn't just take the car.
When we look at the public transport offering, we need to look beyond flash gimmicks on buses. Not only are they not much use if the bus doesn't turn up, but also the waiting experience is likely to already piss the customer off before they've even boarded. For an important transport hub like Heworth, there should be a lot better than we have there.

I remember seeing loads of replies to broken down or running late buses but now nothing.... is it because it used to be the exception to the rule and now it is the rule? They are in cars, cycling or in taxis.
We finally managed to confirm our return to the office date this week (end of this month) and for the 1-2 days a week we’re asking colleagues to come in, we’ve managed to secure a really solid commercial deal with some major local taxi firms and uber credit to get our colleagues confidence into returning to the office. Public transport was the number one barrier we had challenges with (varying between time, safety, reliability and cost)
Wistfully stuck in the 90s

Looks like the 21 is reverting to it’s normal frequency but the X1 and 20 both appear to be sticking at their reduced frequency of 15 mins introduced on a ‘temporary’ basis in Sept and Oct respectively. Are these now permanent reductions?

They ran duplicates on Tuesday night after the Everton game. There was a 309 which departed around 21:50, and there was an extra 310 too.

The X1 looks to have been nothing short than an unmitigated disaster today.
Info retrieved from bustimes.org:
n.b. I've marked several Newcastle-bound trips with a *, as the trip is often changed at John Dobson Street so doesn't reflect the real time it reached it's destination.
I feel sorry for those who have been put on the front line trying to run these to a timetable today.
If this is what 'BETTER than ever' looks like, then I can't see it convincing many people that the bus is the correct mode of transport for their journey. No matter what the Twitterati might tell us.

- The last Newcastle-bound trip from Easington Lane was also cancelled via Social Media, with no alternative provided or posted.
- The 21.00 from Newcastle was announced as cancelled from Washington Galleries (at 21.30) on Social Media due to a breakdown, but appears to have had a miraculous recovery and arrived in Easington Lane 38 late, before running light to Newcastle to do the 23.00 to Easington Lane...

Are there any roadworks on the route?

I did however compare with a sample of 56s, as Google traffic wasn't showing it as an issue earlier, and they seemed to be making it through fine.

As tens of thousands of Sunderland fans head to Wembley this Saturday (21 May) for the League One Play-Off Final, Go North East is expecting to carry considerably lower numbers of passengers across Wearside.
This excuse?
Makes my imaginary PR release about sledges and car sharing in another thread look even more genuine than I anticipated!

Runs with the theme, there's nothing wrong with GNE, it's always someone else's fault. Similar with Covid being the main cause for less people using their buses, totally nothing to do with the fact half the buses aren't running.
