Go North East: Major Service Changes July 2022

Interesting, as I assume it’ll essentially be duplicating the 317 for most of the route.

Unless it is extended from Hadrian Park to Howdon and terminates there.

Also looking like they have gone against extending the 1 to Eighton Banks based on the registration?

Do the briefing indicate how well GNE did with the Nexus and DCC tenders?

Quite a lot of work from what I've read, nowhere near as bad as what the consultantation said

Just need to hope that there will be enough drivers to cover all this work, plus extra Nexus scholars services.

From what I've been led to believe, the 29 is being extended to Chester via the 28a route whilst the 28 remains as it is, albeit funded by Nexus/DCC.

Going back into Eldon Square as well.

That 12 routing through Winlaton had me reaching for the map. Madness!
RE: Go North East: Major Service Changes July 2022
Anyone else think this is way wordier than it needs to be?

The 61A is a bit of a surprise, presumably it'll be Evenings & Sundays, and only as far as Murton? Nice to know that (IMO quite important) detail doesn't exist.
RE: Go North East: Major Service Changes July 2022
Noticed on the 4, they say: "We consulted on reducing the frequency of this service to better match demand for the number of passengers travelling. We are going to proceed with this proposal, with buses revised to run up to every 15 minutes on Monday to Saturday daytimes, every 30 minutes on Sunday daytimes and every 60 minutes on evenings."

Is that a 60 minute frequency every evening or just a Sunday evening? Regardless, they didn't consult on the evening frequencies. They asked: "We are proposing that the frequency is revised to every 15 minutes on Monday to Saturday daytimes and every 30 minutes on Sundays. Additional journeys between Heworth and Follingsby would operate on East Gateshead Rider 58, providing a bus up to every 7 to 8 minutes on this section of the route."

I wonder if the 61 will be Solos now. These changes are going to leave a few spare, and allow the withdrawal of some Citaros.
RE: Go North East: Major Service Changes July 2022
Am I missing something? On the Country Ranger 8 changes it refers to “Little Pinks 81” on Sundays running Washington to Sunderland. But they don’t have a service 81 listed? And surely if it’s not GNE operated it won’t be Little Pinks anymore!

Who’s the real losers in this then? Apart from the tax payer of course!! Since we now have a good insight to Nexus and DCC contracts.

I notice Princess Road in Seaham will be left without a service. They’ll have to walk to the Fire Station to get the 60 and that of course removes links to Dalton Park/Murton.

I’m annoyed to see the 65 changes - just the other Sunday I noticed practically a full StreetLite heading to Dalton Park bound for Durham. And this was at circa 5pm.

I certainly hope not. Murton effectively loses two bus per hour, as they had three 61s looping and a 62 each hour in either direction. Now that’s all replaced with a half hourly 61, I can’t see a solo providing adequate capacity.
RE: Go North East: Major Service Changes July 2022
They also haven’t confirmed evening buses for South Hetton. The 35 is reduced to hourly on a evening so I’m guessing this means the current short 35’s to Houghton which then operate as the 55 to South Hetton will no longer run - with the one 35 that does operate going to Low Moorsley.

They haven’t confirmed if the X1 or 61 will run to South Hetton later in the evening. Surely the area isn’t getting cut off on a evening?

It’s a shame they haven’t done anything about the link to dawdon, could’ve maybe sent the 61A down station road and through dawdon then return to normal route at dalton park. I work in the lane and I’m kind of worried about how to get there now.?

It all depends what happens with the 5/26 they'd be ideal for them as they don't need anything more really with the Streetlites / Streetdecks used on them being used on the likes of the 9/35/61 instead.

It's just guesswork they're being ran by Deptford integrated with the 24 they could easily be ran independent again aswell like the old 88 was.

They could easily go back to Percy Main with the short based Streetlites there going the other way aswell. There's no need for them on the 41/41A and the newer Streetlites would be an upgrade for the 19.

I agree. Aside from the fact there's no North Road in Winlaton (presumably they meant North Street), there's nothing more appealing to passengers than a convoluted route which is hard to understand.

Unless it is going around Knobby Ends Lane (like the 632 used to), it's going to end up using the same roads as the core, non-circular, Newcastle - Winlaton Bus Station section, thus possibly causing more confusion.

The Nexus proposals suggested that service 79A would be revised to serve South Hetton, can only assume this is what's going ahead there?

I read it as the 25 is running half hourly Newcastle to Eighton Banks.

I missed that in the Nexus consultation, wonder if DCC is subsiding that? Is there any other precedent for that? A Nexus supported service providing the only link to an area despite it falling outside of their boundaries? South Hetton really has lost out in these changes, as I’m guessing their GNE passes won’t be valid on the 79A and its outside the Network One T&W passes too.

The link to Spectrum Business Park from Easington, South Hetton & Murton hasn’t even been considered, which is a shame, also no links to Seaham Town Centre from Easington or South Hetton - I’ve seen a few comments locally on both of these.

Good news for passengers, as very little seems to be being reduced in the end - indeed very good news for some passengers with the 41 & Q3 being extended and the 1 evening frequency increasing.

Rather than 40 plus PVR reduction do we know how many it is now?

I imagine that will be difficult to work out until the timetables are released and we see which of the DCC tenders GNE get. There's a lot of ambiguity about who will be running most of the Durham services.

Once we get those I will sit down and work it all out again.
RE: Go North East: Major Service Changes July 2022
Ahhhhh no, 41 back to Howdon, hope it doesnt see off the 317,im enjoying only needing 1 bus to anywhere i need to be
Kind Regards
