Disruptions and driver shortages

RE: Disruptions and driver shortages

And presumably terminate there because that's one hell of a diversion.

Yeah ive just realised how big of a diversion to South Hetton that would be.

They would make more money forcing encouraging people on to the X1 and 20 or 65 and 60 than extending the 65 and its PVR (not a good idea when they're struggling for drivers either).
It did go to Sunderland in a previous  guise, but was cut.

What's good for passengers isn't always good for the operator.

I think that was before it was called the 65 orginally, so looking at maybe 2005/6

It was in 1997 (from the Bygone area):

The extension to Dryburn Hospital was cut in November 1997. Sunderland extension was cut before 2002 (which is when they started putting timetables online).

Well before then too. I remember it running in the 80s.
Pretty sure there was a shortlived 254 variant that took a slightly different route.

I'm surprised they haven't attempted to merge the 61 and 65 together somehow yet now that the 61 doesn't work with the 60 anymore and are both half hourly. I don't really want it to happen but if they ran it express like the X6 from Seaham to Sunderland it would only add 5 mins or so and give 3 buses an hour express between the two and sort out the changeover problem.

Was certainly a 254 operating to Sunderland in 1994 though appears to have had two different route variants sharing the number, in the way that operators like to do to confuse customers. It operated alongside the 154 which at that time didn't extend to Sunderland.  A 254 certainly existed from 1994 up to 1998 and possibly beyond.

Good old 254, when northern was on strike 1991?, (bleanches coaches/travel?) took on the 154, and when northern came back on there stayed on the 154 and northern wasn’t happy and decided to put on the 254 right in front of there bus service using any bus available until there ceased there bus services, service 254 came back on later down the lane using wear buses metroriders

The 254 would probably work today if it followed the 208 route from Easington Lane or even via South Hetton & Haswell Plough

Can’t see GNE putting the 254 back on as it served its purposed, first time round was in competition with bleanches coaches , and the second time round (I maybe wrong with this) was in competition with Michael franks coaches 153 service with the 254 running right in front of 153.

Those days are well gone now, unless some enthusiasts with a pot less money pot want to get together and run those services , and see for themselves how to run a bus service and make a profit, it’s all to easy making suggestions but there more behind the scenes, maybe Dan can start a training programme at GNE for enthusiasts so there can see what goes on and show why certain/a lot of suggestions won’t work in real life, there’s a bit of overtime for ya Dan

To be fair, there could also be a course on how not to run a bus service and why the professionals can't get it right either! Big Grin

Yea a GNE course for Branded buses with first topic how to brand a bus service and then use the branded buses on other bus services and confuse the public passenger and do away with there own corporate identity when branded buses are more than (80%?) of there fleet

Includes a free trip to local authority HQs with begging bowls in hand!
RE: Disruptions and driver shortages
Quite a few of last buses are cancelled tomorrow including

28B/2/2A/35 (including the last two to Heworth to Sunderland & Low Moorlsey) /5 /9/60.

Some people will have a long wait in Stanley bus station, which isn't the best on a evening
RE: Disruptions and driver shortages
The amount of gaps between timings are big on some.

Glad I don't use GNE anymore... although lately Stagecoach Sunderland's services have been getting cancelled lately.
Ooo Friend, Bus Friend.

All one after each other. With one being 3 in a row. So there won't be in 60 in nearly 48 mins, I expect the next non-cancelled bus would be a solo, i mean #betterthanever

The worst thing is there will be probs 2 solo's on all day aswell. Like today.

I do wonder why Deptford has been really bad lately
RE: Disruptions and driver shortages
They should be surely working rotas so early mornings and evenings are covered. They've had enough practice with disruptions!

Probably all the drivers being taken off regular duties for route learning ready for the upcoming reshuffle.
