Arriva North East: Upcoming Service Changes

It was meant to happen with NorthernConnect or whatever that was some years ago.

If would be interesting if anyone had an statistics on whether that East Durham Coast Line or whatever its called has had a increase or decrease of passengers from pre-pandemic.

If they haven't lost any it definitely shows the X10 is just losing passengers I've only seen the 17:00 from EldonSquare come anywhere close to busy
RE: Arriva North East: Upcoming Service Changes
We'll have to wait until November for the stats not affected (too much) by the covid. However, 4-car trains are now a semi-regular sight so I think that should at least give an idea.

They're wanting it done before the Tall Ships happen next year.
Whether it happens or not, is another thing. But funding is secured as far as I know.

I'm not sure if it's possible. I know there's big problems between Sunderland (including the station) and Pelaw with the Metro trains and lack of capacity there aswell but hopefully they can find a way.

Northern Connect was never planned to go along the Durham Coast Line, that was planned to do Newcastle, (Chester Le Street), Durham, Stockton, Thornaby, Middlesbrough. I'm not 100% sure on CLS but the rest is 100% right.

Lack of paths killed that though but there's a spare path now so maybe that might be the alternative to above to avoid the Sunderland issues. It would also give a direct train between Durham and Teesside which doesn't exist atm which would get all the passengers doing the Teesside to Newcastle avoiding the Durham Coast Line, leaving capacity for locals. (Stillington is quicker, 55 minutes between the two).

4 Car Trains should be the minimum.

4 car trains aren't all that regular during your average week, the only ones allocated are the 11:59 Whitby to Hexham, 15:56 Hexham to Whitby and 15:58 and from Whitby as far as Newcastle, which is generally all you get according to RTT.

Quite often sets have been coupled together at places such as Middlesbrough when there's been an on-board staffing shortage of one type or the other.

Train is cancelled and the following one joins together. Not only does it clear the tracks, but often gets it back to the depot or Darlington.

Other changes from September 4th are:

865: morning journey retimed to run 5 minutes earlier throughout.

ED2: the lunchtime short journeys between Houghton-le-Spring and EDC Peterlee are withdrawn.

RE: Arriva North East: Upcoming Service Changes
Arriva on bustimes.org have now listed changes coming into place on the 30th of October (North East/Northumbria) and 31st Country Durham

Most are revised timetable with a few revised routes. Interesting to note the 46/46a has been registered as cancelled

In County Durham the evening service 58 between Durham, Station Town & Hartlepool has been cancelled as has services 61/62 in Durham.

Likely some changes are result of contract changes in County Durham.

Services in County Durham with variations are: 1, 5/5A, 6, 7, 8/8A, 22, 23, 24, 48, 49/49A, 56/56A, 57/57A 64, X21, X22, X75/X76 and the Middlesbrough to Durham stretch of the X12.

Northumberland variations are: 43, 44, 45, 51, 52, 53, 54, 55, 308, 553, X7, X8, X9, X10, X30 (fair few of these have route changes as well although 43 is noted to be for a road closure).

The 308 changes could include/be solely 306 changes given they're now under the same registration. Same with X10/11.

Interesting that there are variations to the X30 rather than it just being a cancellation, doesn't seem to have recovered as well post-Covid.

Wonder if the 22/23 are just them staying hourly extending to Sunderland from Peterlee

Unless they're going to try and make it an "all day" thing?

Be interesting to see if the X7/X8/X9 route changes are moving them around again. I know there's been some complaining from Amersham Drive about the lack of a service to Cramlington now and lack of service to the Regent Centre from South Beach since the changes.

There's also a big problem currently where all the buses leaving Newcastle at rush hour are single deckers but leaving Blyth are double decker carry little loads but it's not fixable as if you move them around then the problem moves to the morning instead with the Astley school bus missing both, it's a bit of a mess.

Amersham Drive to Regent Centre and Cramlington can easily be sorted without things going back 'as they were'. Would be suicidal Arriva re-swapping the X8 / X9 back around unless the X30 fits somewhere in the plans?

ngl I don't think the Regent Centre will be sorted but I have a feeling they might flip the X7 and X8 around between Blyth and South Beach with the X8 doing Amersham and the X7 going via the main street. It's the way it used to be anyway. Sorts the Cramlington issue out at least.

No-one in Seaton Valley will miss the trundle along Amersham and vice versa.

That would be a sensible move to be honest.

Quite a few service cuts by Arriva in North Tyneside - https://www.arrivabus.co.uk/latest-news/...h-tyneside

46/46A and 51A withdrawn. Replacement for the 46/46A is being offered by Nexus.
53 reduced to hourly between North Shields and Palmersville.
54 reduced to hourly, evening/Sunday journeys withdrawn - although replacement is being offered by Nexus.
55 reduced to half hourly.
553 Saturday journeys removed.

My thing about the evening 306 & 308 journeys departing at xx:17 and xx47.............

If GNE decided to abandon Martijn's policy of working in 'partnership' and wanted to go 'dog eat dog'......

At the moment, GNE's and Arriva's evening departure times work in harmony and no real threat of competition.

But Arriva have left themselves exposed as GNE could take advantage and still fulfill their business requirements.

Wonder if the 54 might be downgraded to minibuses and interworking with the 51 and 55. It won't work with the 52 and 53 being only hourly as far as I'm aware.

The 53 and 55 are temporary changes.
RE: Arriva North East: Upcoming Service Changes
I think we'll see the Q3 once an hour serving Hollywood Avenue or otherwise i'd suggest extending the 553 from the Regent Centre as really there is no other alternative options as I doubt Arriva will want to divert one of the 43/44 or 45's.

Would've suggested a 54A coming into Hollywood Avenue via Salters Bridge but I don't think that will work from looking at Google Maps.

I would imagine Nexus will just replicate the 46A service hourly. I couldn't see the Q3 diverting to serve both Hollywood Avenue and Featherstone Grove.

Arriva North East: Upcoming Service Changes
Noticed that Arriva haven’t put up the County Durham bus changes for the end of October, I wonder if it’s mostly secured services that are affected unless Arriva doing a GNE, noticed the decrease of the 22/23 from last time and the journeys on the 22/23/24 are still being cancelled, delayed and running 2 together
