First 6071 (Tyne Valley 10) Arrived, now today 6147 (DFDS Green) is here doing the Scholars.

Well the answer is a bit of a shock!
The B5LH's are slowly being withdrawn within the next few weeks. 6057 & 6064 are the first to go!
RE: Go North East State Of The Fleet
Surprised to see the B5LHs being withdrawn already, unless they've become too unreliable to keep on the road.

I wonder what the average frontline fleet age is now, compared to say 2019?

It's interesting to see the gradual "downgrade" of the buses allocated to the diamond. It's went from new streetlites, to cascaded B5LH's (albeit due to the Newcastle low emission zone and presumed extra capacity needed?), and now just whatever is spare..?

In that case, why spend money on changing the destinations on the side of the yellow X lines vehicles from Shotley Bridge to Castleside recently, when they've ran around for ages with the wrong place on them, only to show the right place just before withdrawal!

Wonder where the TVT is going next fleet wise, more often than not 5 or 6 off service or off route. It’s a particularly bad day today with 9 off. Another example of the demise of a previous gold standard route, 6079 apparently being off since January.
RE: Go North East State Of The Fleet
Three X10s broke down in a row today

17:15 from newcastle going to Gateshead.

18:15 from Newcastle broke down coming back from Peteleree at 17:15

19:15 from Newcastle broke down at Middlesbrough at 17:15

To add to this this ended up with the buses from 20 mins late to 90 mins late on the last runs of the day (all depaturtes from Newcastle + there return from Middlesbrough)

17:15 ended up being 90 mins late coming back to Newcastle - 6357
18:20 ended up being about 30 mins late - 6312
19:20 so far at Hartlepool is about an 60 mins late - 6353
20:20 so far leaving Middlesbrough is about 30 mins late - 6355

Doesn't help the X10 is contending with two closures on the A19 Northbound tonight which adds about 25 minutes onto each trip from Boro to Newcastle, didn't help some drivers were seemingly caught unaware by the one just beyond Dalton Park so had some having to double back or further divert to get back on track, buses appear to be diverting via Redheugh Bridge heading into Newcastle instead of the Tyne Bridge too.

Lord knows what caused the other issues with the service tonight, 6357 ended up sat in Middlesbrough Bus Station for 20 mins for some reason resulting in a 30 min delay to the departure (then had to divert due to above).

Whilst some of the issues are out of GNE's control, the other issues tonight only snowballed matters.

Breakdowns the buses whcih were meant to run 18:20 from Newcastle broke down at Peterlee (towards Newcastle), 19:20 broke down at Middlesbrough (towards Newcastel) and the 17:15 broke down at Gateshead (towards Middlesbrough) none of these
RE: Go North East State Of The Fleet
at least i got value for money using my magpie mover on the 28b on saturday after match. due 120, came about 140 then got to high level bridge at well after 11pm. Didnt get in house till midnight. And to top things off the 1130pm 28b was just going through kibblesworth at whatever time we got there so god know what time that drive got home.... unless he went NIS and didnt run back from town

And this is why GNE need a dual X10 & X21 fleet of E400MMC rather than the same 4x getting a hammering up and down the A19. Works perfectly well at Ashington with 7541-52 and 7563-81 being mixed between the X21/X22 and X14/X15/X18/X20.
Depending on what the 6 could interwork with as it wouldn't be reliable standalone just Stanley to Newcastle, extending the X31 to Lanchester would make the Stanley remote reliefs more efficient and provide a reliable X30/X31 interworking with each other standalone from other service groups.

X45 could interwork with the X71/X72 using StreetDecks or B5TLs.

Consett:
- 6336, 6337, 6338, 6339, 6340, 6341 - Total PVR of 4x (X30/X31) + 2x spare

Riverside
- 6342-55 - Total PVR of 12x (X10 & X21) + 2x spare

And from a reliability POV depending on whether there's any VOR.....a new bus & driver instead of a van could be sent from Consett to Stanley to pick up the X30 meaning that any delays from earlier X30 & X31 runs could be regulated too!

X30 (STY>NCL) > X31 (NCL>LAN) > X31 (LAN>NCL) > X30 (NCL>STY)

6079 went for an engine at Saltmeadows and the engine that went into it was also knackered. It’s been sat at Saltmeadows around the back ever since

Was in Sunderland for a bit earlier today. Couldn't help notice the state of some of these Prince Bishops Streetlites now.

7 years without a repaint/reapplication of branding is starting to show. More instances of it peeling massively or having been torn off, than anything else.

Look at the Drifters its been a decade, its a nice livery just needs an entire repaint

The drifter ones still look OK in comparison, but hard to believe a brand has survived that long without a repaint.

5369/5371 had new vinyls put on a year back if not a little bit longer. But 5371 was involved in an incident a few month ago causing the middle two doorside panels needing to be replaced.

Shame, 79 and 78 were the best of the batch by some way, although they were both plagued with eminox derates after conversion.
RE: Go North East State Of The Fleet
The state of the fleet is a shambles and in some services are crying out of investment in new buses now but that looks highly unlikely with Go North East who appear now only willing to purchase new buses if it's supported by Government Grants such as ZEBRA, we might see something from Zebra 2 but that would mean potentially no new buses until 2024 and I don't think we can wait that long.

I'd say order the following:

95 New Deckers - Angel 21 / Cobalt & Coast 307/309 & X-Lines Services

35 - Electric Buses (Angel 21 /Cobalt & Coast 307/309) under Zebra 2

60 - New Deckers (X-Lines)

41 (Streetdeck's), 7 (B5TL Gemini 3), 20 (E400MMC), 17 (B9's) free'd up to be allocated to other routes, 12 remaining (B5LH's) withdrawn, latter 2 by other cascades.

This would see the likes of the Tyne Valley 10's, Durham Diamond 16's, Crusader 27, Red Kite Ranger 47, City Rider 56 & upgraded with the B9's replacing older deckers in the fleet.

56 New Single Deckers - Connections 4, Prince Bishops 20, Go North East 5/24/26/49's/96, Drifer 60 & Tynedale Links 74/680 & 684

This would see off the 10/11 & 63 plate Versa's, 63 Plate Streetlites & 63 Plate Citaro which would all be withdrawn, services in Sunderland such as the 2/2A & 35 would be upgraded to 16 plate Streetlites.

9 Electric Mini Buses - Tynedale Links under Zebra 2 (Rural Services)

Solo SR's would be cascaded elsewhere within Go-Ahead.

2/2A are very much more popular than people think I would defo upgrade them to newer buses, the 16/17 plates can be moved to Consett/Washington and kept at Deptford for the 35, 34, 28, 29, 8, 78, 12 (with an increased frequency).

They need atleast 150 buses, so none of the london castoffs are in mainline services, especially being put on services like the 21/X21/10s
RE: Go North East State Of The Fleet
It’s a nice sentiment but GNE don’t have a pot to proverbially piss in. Everything is done one the cheap from engineering to marketing to service.

We’ll probably see more go ahead group cascades. From a passenger pov they could look at taking care of the interior. Ripped seats, tables peeling with sharp edges, floors peeling etc etc minor things but easy to fix on a low budget. Stagecoach get longevity and value out of their fleet, GNE seem incapable of it.

Outside of zebra I don’t think we’ll see anything new until the new mayor starts dishing out the cash
Wistfully stuck in the 90s
RE: Go North East State Of The Fleet
I was on one of SCNE E400 the seats are so much comfier.

Also i think the 9/5/24/26 should be called the South Tyneside Connect (if new buses are put on the route)
