The phrase Couldn't hit a cows arse with a banjo springs to mind
(08 Jul 2014, 10:09 pm)Andreos Constantopolous wrote It is one of those freak results or events that need seeing to be believed.
JFK being shot.
Newcastle beating the likes of Barca and Juve.
Hammering Man U.
Leading twice in Milan.
Man landing on the moon.
Gateshead getting to Wembley.
Sunderland getting their two/three wins against Newcastle in a decade.
Brazil being hammered by Germany...
(09 Jul 2014, 6:12 am)Michael wrote After last nights shocking result, Germany broke all these records:
The match was a record 13th time Germany (including West Germany) reached the last four, and the 12th semi-final they played (Germany reached the 1974 final after coming through a second group stage). In addition, multiple scoring records were broken during the game:
Miroslav Klose broke the record for the most goals scored at the finals with 16, overtaking Brazil's Ronaldo.
It was the first time five (5) goals were scored in a 29-minute period of play.
It was the fastest four goals scored in World Cup history as Germany scored four (4) in the span of six minutes (from 23 to 29).
It was Brazil's worst ever home defeat.
It was Brazil's worst ever defeat, tied with the 0–6 loss to Uruguay in 1920.
Germany became the goal scorer leader at the World Cup finals with 223, passing Brazil's total of 221.
The match contained the most goals scored against the host nation of the World Cup, with Austria defeating Switzerland 7–5 in 1954; the next highest was Brazil, who won 5–2 against hosts Sweden in 1958.
Brazil had never before allowed seven (7) goals playing at home.
The defeat broke Brazil's 62-match home unbeaten streak in competitive matches dating back to its 1–3 loss to Peru in the 1975 Copa America.
It was worst World Cup semi-final defeat suffered by any national team.
It was first time since 1938 that Brazil have lost a World Cup semi-final, as they had progressed in their previous six.
It was the first time that Brazil had conceded more than five World Cup goals since 1938.
Brazil have conceded more than seven goals in a game only during a 4–8 friendly defeat to Yugoslavia on 3 June 1934.
Brazil is only the second host team to concede seven goals in a World Cup match.
It was Germany's highest half-time lead in a World Cup match, with their previous best being 4–0 against Saudi Arabia at the 2002 FIFA World Cup (their greatest win, 8–0).
Only two teams have previously trailed by five goals at half-time: Zaire (vs. Yugoslavia in 1974) and Haiti (vs. Poland in 1974).
No other team has ever scored seven goals in the semi-finals of the World Cup.
Thomas Müller scored Germany's 2,000th goal in the history of their national team.
Müller became the third player in history to score five or more goals in two different World Cups (after Cubillas and Klose).
Toni Kroos' first-half double was the fastest pair of goals scored in World Cup history, as he scored twice in just 69 seconds.

Post from Skysports:
Sky Sports sources understand Sunderland have made a formal offer to Fiorentina to bring Marcos Alonso back to the Stadium of Light. Alonso spent the second half of last season on loan at Sunderland and it is understood that the left-back has told Fiorentina that he wants to leave.
Sky sports are normally quite accurate with stuff like this.
Sunderland have made a formal offer to Fiorentina for defender Marcos Alonso, Sky sources understand.
Alonso, predominately a left-back, spent a successful spell on loan at the Stadium of Light last season, making a total of 20 appearances and helping them avoid relegation from the Premier League.
The 23-year-old has also been linked with Premier League rivals West Ham and Swansea, and Sky sources understand he has told Fiorentina he wants to leave.
He only managed three appearances in Serie A after joining Fiorentina in May 2013 from Bolton but did play six more times in the Europa League.
He started his career in his home town with Real Madrid, playing regularly for reserve side Castilla, but he did make one senior appearance off the bench at the end of the 2009-10 season before leaving for Bolton.

Liverpool are going to have a decent war chest
(19 Jul 2014, 9:57 pm)aureolin wrote I'd say £14m is a lot for what they're going to get in Borini. He scored some important goals, but it still only amounted to 7 goals in 32 games. Forwards around the level Sunderland should be aiming at are doing double that - Bony (16), Lukaku (15), Rodriguez (15), Remy (14), Lambert (13). Even Benteke got 10 in the season Villa had...
(19 Jul 2014, 10:25 pm)marxistafozzski wrote Those 7 goals were the difference between stopping up and going down...£14m is probably a bit too steep, I would have said £10m tops with add ons in the deal...You'd argue that if he had been on pat with other strikers of that level, then Sunderland wouldn't have been in that position where the goals were so important in the first place. Him and Fletcher should have been on target for 30 between them for the season.
I saw on an Italian rumour site that Borini may actually end up not doing a deal with Sunderland and holding out to move somewhere else...But until I see it in black and white, I will take that with a pinch of salt
