wen i drove past faverdale depot this morning all that was in the yard spare was a sapphire pulsar a solo parked in dead corner a ex classic solo that was parked by the wash. inside was a solo and a pulsar getting worked on

Just remembered Scott said earlier that 1611 and 1639 were at Stockton for test today. Two Darlington depot buses get tested there every Wednesday.

Speaking of Redcar and old tricks, it seemed like all the ALX200s were on the 22/64/64A today.

Also 4716 was on the 4/X4 this afternoon.

The Lowlanders aren't getting scrapped they're just moving to Durham - to replace older stock going for disposal (namely the T-FGNs and the Tridents)

Are the Y-EBRs DDA?

Yeah they are, while the Tridents and T-FGNS DAFs aren't - which explains why they're staying for this year... They will probably go next year depending on cascades from London or new orders.

Yeah Jesmond work the 1650 X11 - I'd have hoped they would have found something a bit more suitable than 2603 though !

In essence, starting from January 2015 all buses and coaches used for any kind of public transport or hire and reward must meet certain access requirements such as those for ramps, wheelchair access and dedicated wheelchair space. If they don’t they will be deemed illegal to operate.
The first group of vehicles affected, those up to 7.5 tonnes GVW, will have to be compliant or out of service by the 31st of December 2014.
A year later the same will apply to single-deck buses over 7.5 tonnes GVW and by the 1st of January 2017 it will include double-deckers.

Where can non-DDA vehicles continue to be used?

School contracts and City sightseeing tours?

When (if ever) will they be totally outlawed in Britain - and where will they be expected to go then?

Malta? Big Grin

Why don't they refurbish them?

Arriva would have planned when the vehicles were purchased to sell them by a certain year - enough time for the company to pay for the vehicles and make a profit from them, and then sell them on to obtain the maximum amount of revenue to pay towards new vehicles.

They'll be bringing the average fleet age down, and the vehicles, due to their age, may not be as reliable as they once were.

Some of Durham's Lowlanders are terrible for reliability, everytime I see 7444 in Durham its being pulled off a service because there is something wrong with it and then you don't see it for ages at times. I once noticed 7441 upstairs interior lights flickering on and off then a few months later I saw it and the upstairs lights weren't on at all so it was pitch black at night upstairs. 7443 also recently broke down on the roundabout outside New College.

See how they cope when they've got the full lot then...
