Arriva North East: Latest News & Discussion - July 2014

RE: Arriva North East - Latest
So is all the Omni's going from Durham?, sick of getting Omni's on the 24, everytime their go round a corner you always hear the bus making a clunking noise, I thought service 22/24 supposed to be all worked by pulsars.

Ashame that service 21/21A is not getting any streetlites, sick of the solos on their and overcrowding issues.

Is their any date yet for durham to get the streetlites on the road on service 23, would of thought Durham would get theirs before Newcastle.

22 is down to be allocated fully Pulsar. 24 is actually booked for 3 DB250s and 3 OmniCity although of course now that will change.

21A doesn't exactly warrant anything brand new (and that uses Prestiges at present anyway). 21 may be getting larger vehicles allocated on there in the near future I believe.

As for the StreetLites for the 23, they are due to be 1574-8, so are due first once 1560-73 arrive. Jesmond's are the last of the initial 2014 order for them, Darlington's are of course add-ons.

Yes the Scanias will be moving away from Durham upon receipt of the Pulsars from Darlington in November. Obviously 4663 has already gone (now at Jesmond) replaced temporarily by an MPD from Yorkshire. There may be a chance that other short term replacements may be sourced to free up the Scanias earlier than that, in order to speed up the refurbishment program, just like they are doing at present.

Glad to report that the 21 will be gaining bigger vehicles soon!

The Streetlites for the 35, 306 and 23 are all due around the end of September, around the same time.

It will be interesting to see what bigger vehicles are used on the 21 my bet is darts 1305 -8 from redcar that's if they still destined for darlo but still begs the question what the 75/6 will be allocated

God no, I'd rather be crammed on a Solo than have them awful Darts on the 21.

75/76 are going to be allocated Pulsars I believe.

Cheers for the update.

service 24 most of the time is pulsars, occasionly their are some Omni's.

service 22 most of the time is pulsars, but their do get double deckers and solos on. couple of weeks ago their was 3 solos on service 22, and their were running about 20 minutes late. and usually their a mad dash in peterlee bus station when the 22 or 24 comes in to go to Durham as parents with buggies try and get on the bus first to get the buggy space. 20-30 years ago their would had to fold their buggies up, this generation should think of themselves lucky.

When the 23 gets streetlites, it will free up pulsars from service 23 and hopefully the pulsars will get used on service 24. whats the allocation supposed to be on service 23. I originally thought it was all worked with solos.

Ive seen most of the time when ive been at peterlee bus station and the 21 usually gets a full load from the bus station.

23 is Solo. Arrival of the Streetlites releases 5 Solos to move to Darlington.

75/76 are going to be allocated Pulsars I believe.

The original plan was ex x1 pulsars 1404-7 were to be allocated to the 75/6 but 1404-6 are due to transfer to durham once the streetlites for x1 arrive

I think Darlington will still have enough Pulsars to allocate for the 75/76, 1407 will be staying, 1493 will probably be staying too (hopefully losing that awful 1/X1 vinyl wrap)

Everytime I've been to Darlington recently there has been a Pulsar allocated to the 75/76, although sometimes there has been one missing from the 1/5/5A at the same time.

75/76 will Still be allocated pulsars , there usually a spare on in faverdale the spare one will be used in it along with 1493 & 1498 both x1 buses at the moment

I believe the plan for 1305-8 is 8/8a.

3 extra buses to be allocated to Darlington will be former demonstrator MAN Ecocities which have been purchased. These would appear to be:
- WX61FXO (which we had on demonstration at Darlington previously!),
- WX61HSL (which was used at Go North East)
- WX13GHN, a newer one

I am told these should be allocated to service 21 Darlington - Peterlee, which would be an upgrade on the Solos currently used on there. They should take up fleet numbers 4812-14

Wow, was not expecting that, they will be so much nicer than the Solos currently allocated on there, I rode one of the examples we already have once on a Sunday between Peterlee and Aycliffe and they seemed to handle the route pretty well even on hills.

7453-6 are going to Durham as part of the standardisation (given Durham will also have 7436-40 from Ashington)

Have to say, I was impressed by whichever one I had a ride of on the X15 from Berwick all the way back to Newcastle (Regent Centre).

Perhaps wouldn't be as great as a Volvo B9TL - not sure which would be better out of those or Volvo B7TLs? Good as spares, maybe, and to assist on the summer timetable.

I had 7456 on the X21 between Ashington and Newcastle and it was brilliant.
