(11 Aug 2014, 2:43 pm)Drifter60 542 was Deptford based, Peterlee did have some VOR's a bit back not sure if any of them are still VOR for the foreseeable hence why they've been given an extra spare as technically Deptford are an MPD short as they need 4 for 238/99 unless cadets could be allocated to 99 with more Solars used on 29.

Although MPD 542 was actually transferred direct to Peterlee from Percy Main and saw use on the "East Durham" local services yesterday, it has actually returned to service at Deptford today - seeing use on "East Durham" service 238.

As far as I am aware, Peterlee only have one MPD vehicle VOR, and as they have two vehicles spare usually, they've probably been left with just the one until it looks like they do require a second spare.

Service 99 has, as of late, been operated by DAF SB120/Wright Cadets.

Does anyone have a list of ''daily odd workings'' that Percy Main do?

(11 Aug 2014, 1:24 pm)NEBCD Malarkey It was running 7 Minutes Late when I caught it at Biddick as it was due at 12:57, didn't come till 13:04, by which time it of been departing Washington Galleries.

I can think it will be running even later if there is Roadworks in the Chester Area, and further along the Route in both Directions, Hopefully 9120 isn't Regulated as I was planning on get a shot of the 18:06 at The Galleries later on.

Just out curiosity what would the PVR Difference be if the 8/78 were Standalone Services and didn't Interwork, As the 8 always seems to be running Several Minutes Late, and that has a Knock-On effect to the 78.

9120 was 3 Minutes Early coming into The Galleries for the 18:06 Departure towards Stanley, Taking my Number of Photos of 9120 to 31, with more to come no doubt along the Route between Sunderland and Consett.

Left Sunderland 2m late too, which is even more impressive.

On another note, is this the Tynedalexpress?

EDIT: Maybe it isn't - doesn't have the high backed seating. Can't think of another Solar in the fleet which orange interior branding though... Unless it's an old Fab56 photo.

Yeah it doesn't have high back seats but the interior branding is orange so I hazard a guess its an old photo of a Fab Fifty Six Solar.

I was expecting it to be late to be honest, with it being 7 Minutes Late earlier in the Day, could argue minus it 13 Minutes Layover before doing the 17:30 that it made up 12 Minutes give or take.

It could have been 5210, yeah... I can't remember if it's had the interior branding removed or not (we all know what they're like when it comes to interior branding!)
The same person uploaded a photo of the Tynedalexpress too - hence the assumption it was also the Tynedalexpress.

EDIT: Nevermind...

There will come a time when Chester has to be replaced with a newer depot with better resources, as it is certainly very old - and that's the nicest way of putting it. In my eyes, it would make sense to merge it with either Stanley or Washington (or indeed both).

As you can imagine, the cost is prohibitive - the advantages have got to outweigh the disadvantages (ie initial cost).

Suppose that would have to happen in a few years. I think Hexham will need replaced too, but obviously not merged with anything.
Imagine having to learn all the routes for Washington, Stanley and Chester-le-Street though!!

I think the old BOC Gases Site at the Bottom of Vigo Lane would be suitable for a Merger of 2 Depots, Possibly all 3 if the Red Kite/Diamond Operations were Transferred to Riverside or evenly split the Allocations.

A proposal a few years ago (prior to Peter Huntley's departure and death) was that Chester-Le-Street and Stanley were to merge into a site in the Birtley area with Washington being split into two with half the operation moving to Birtley and the rest to Deptford. Percy Main was planned to move to a newer site within the Tyne Tunnel Industrial Estate but I think these will all be on the back burner for now.

That would have been good Sad

If it were to happen, I'd suggest for the Washington routes to be split like this:

X88, M2/M3, W5/W6 - Birtley
4, 88, X1 - Deptford

It's pointless washington having a depot nowadays. The life has been squeezed out of services in the town, and there's nowt that wouldn't be too much of a faff on to run from elsewhere. Shame like.
