Unusual Spottings Elsewhere
RE: unusual spottings
It's always Doncaster - a green G reg what looked like an Olympian.
It was a tri-axle decker, with windows that slid open sideways (not just a portion though, half of each window) and what can only be described as roll bars across the windows to stop people falling out.
Unless HM Prisons are transporting people around on double deck buses, I can only assume it is an ex Hong Kong vehicle.
Can anyone shed any light?
Edit: this is the bad boy I was on about! Www.flickr.com/photos/thespian/8167183947/
Edit edit: its not the same one, but very similar

RE: unusual spottings
It wasn't Doncaster this time!
A Tfl First Gemini on a low-loader heading North on the A1 at Ferrybridge. Guessing its off to Leeds (or York) to start a new life in the north.
An unbranded white Versa sporting a 13 plate on the back of a low-loader heading South at Ripon on the A1. Presumably on a visit to the Optare factory...

Wasnt sure which section to put this in - buy decided on this one.
I passed the Reed Bordall distribution centre on the A1. Alongside all of the tractor units and trailers, there appeared to be an Optare Metrorider parked up, in Northumbria colours. Anyone know about this?

Nearly always Doncaster...
A jet black Vyking - the back end of the upstairs (probs 1/4) was an 'open topper', but the bodywork had been cut away and replaced by railings along the open section.
It looked like some sort of promotional bus, but had no branding or vinyls at all.

RE: unusual spottings
Does anyone know what the yard is between Wilmslow and Stockport rail stations? First time I've been down that way and it caught my eye, as there were a couple of Stagecoach Olympians, an Atlantean, and some other vehicles parked up outside. Condition of the vehicles would suggest it was a breakers yard of some sort..

The only thing I can think of, is to try and track the location using your phone or ipad on your way back (or next time your passing) and try and use the postcode/co-ordinates to tie in with a google/yell search.
I've just searched on my Yell app and found a few (here is a link from their site - www.yell.com/s/car+and+vehicle+dismantlers-levenshulme.html)

I've pinned it on google so will look when I get home. Some really interesting stuff in that yard, but none of it makes sense. Couldn't get any fleet numbers but there's a few modern liveried Olympians in there, what looks like a brand new solo SR in plain white, a bristol vr (i think!) and a host of atlanteans.

Arriva and Go North East seem to often have driver trainer buses going round the Bishop Auckland and Darlington area's I've noticed, I saw 8243 in Bishop Bus Station on Monday morning and again at junction 59 services in Aycliffe on Tuesday afternoon.

3 ex-Go Ahead London Gemini's spotted heading north:
North East bound by AECAV760, on Flickr
Are they for an independent (even one of the main operators) or are they going to Thornton's for a refurbishment (eventhough I imagine Go-Ahead use Hants & Dorset Trim for the London operation?)

Jim Hughes maybe as they have won quite a few new contracts.

Saw this on test earlier.
Came on to the A1 just south of Ferrybridge and continued to play the hokey-cokey with the lanes, as far as the Doncaster/Rotherham slip.
Couldn't work out the operator going off the colours (not that it would be easy in this day and age like).
Any ideas?

I've not long been on a trip to the Netherlands.
Didnt do much gricing when I was over there, but in the places we were at, I noticed the prescence of Connexxions and Arriva.
The Arriva Qline brand appeared to be quite dominant, using a mix of Merc and Volvo engined vehicles.
One trip out in the car through a particularly rural and scenic part of Schouwen-Duiveland, brought me in to sight of a black VR.
We were driving at speed, but I made note of its location.
By process of elimination and Rob Sly's excellent site, I think I have tracked down said vehicle and done so a lot quicker than I ever imagined.
Google maps has a black VR parked up in the area I saw it and Rob Sly has a black VR registered at a location just a few miles down the road from where I spotted it/Google maps has the VR.
Turns out it's ex-Cumberland 428.

Worth noting that the area operates a zero fare policy in the summer months.
Unfortunately the closest you will get to 428 is if you buy chips!

RE: Unusual Spottings Elsewhere
I've done some digging on this and drawn a blank.
Watching Classic Corrie as I do, I've seen many an old bus in the background.
However, when watching an episode recently, I spotted what looks like an ECW Atlantean on 'Rosamund St', as Ken Barlow was walking towards the cafe.
Knowing the episode was shown in 1993 originally and the GAG ECW Atlantean's disappearing not too long prior to this, I was wondering if the white example in the photo was one of the native examples, living an extended life.
I've checked online and can't find any white examples photographed in the Manchester area - to rule my theory in or out.
However, that's not to say there's no photos of it.
Any help would be appreciated

Not sure. It seemed a 'live' street broadcast somewhere in Manchester, with cars, vans and pedestrians - as opposed to filmed on the set.
The buses on the set always appeared to be GM Orange too.

RE: Unusual Spottings Elsewhere
Seeing a post on fb, reminded me of this.
What looked like a re-engined Mk2 National, parked up at The Old Fox Truckstop on the A1 over a period of time.
I was driving in both directions, so unable to get a good look.
It's not pictured on Google maps unfortunately. Anyone know anything about it?
