Go North East: Latest News & Discussion - March 2015

RE: Go North East: Latest News & Discussion - March 2015
(15 Mar 2015, 12:17 pm)Dan wrote Waking up early doors and being at Deptford before the first bus of the day had even left the depot was well worth it, when the result was having white route numbers back on the 56. As we had to go before the first 56 left the depot, it was still dark which made the white route number look even more effective.

In other news, Volvo B7TL/Wright Eclipse Gemini 3941 (NK05 GZO) has been given a full re-trim. Given that 3942 has also received this treatment, I'd assume that all of the Wright Eclipse Gemini bodied Volvo B7TLs will... Also, I am led to believe that Volvo B10BLE/Wright Renown 4845 (R845 PRG) has been withdrawn and is currently in storage at Saltmeadows Road Depot prior to disposal. This is subject to confirmation in Go North East's official fleet news tomorrow, but I don't think it will see service again...

Confirmed this morning along with 8293 which has also being withdrawn from Hexham, according to the fleet update.

Quite gutted about 8293

news from Simplygo.com Volvo B10BLE 4845: R845 PRG has now been withdrawn from Riverside and the Volvo B6BLE/Plaxton 8293: NK54 PHV has been withdrawn from Hexham. main question is why has 8293 been withdrawn the unique one it was an okish bus to me

usually the safety sticker near the window or near the cab sometimes gives it away but 4931 was in fact a former whey aye five 0 bus was also the last of the scanias from that brand to be repainted due to its engine fire on Boxing Day thats how that dart spd temp stayed in the fleet til that was repaired and repainted

4931 was also one of the original batch of fab fifty sevens before it went to whey aye 50

I have no idea what the exact reason why 8293 has been withdrawn but is it possible that it is because it is one of only two ever built so spare parts could be hard to source for it or could be difficult keeping it on the road because of it being so incredibly rare and could be difficult to fix things. Think something was said like this before about this bus.

Just gutted I never got a photo of it Sad

Just a guess, it might have suffered technical problems

How old was 8293?

54-reg so late 2004/early 2005.
RE: Go North East: Latest News & Discussion - March 2015
It's older than that - they were built about 2000 and sat unregistered for years.

8293 was renowned for being rather unreliable. As has been mentioned, there was only two of these vehicles ever built, which made sourcing parts more difficult than usual resulting in longer periods off the road. Both 4845 and 8293 will be replaced by other vehicles when new vehicles enter service. Both vehicles are currently in storage at Saltmeadows Road pending disposal.
RE: Go North East: Latest News & Discussion - March 2015
Does that mean the new vehicles for the X66 are due very soon?

They certainly are due very soon. Watch this space...

To answer a question posted earlier today: two vehicles arrived at Saltmeadows over the weekend for repaint - these being 561 and 6023.

Percy Main's Volvo B7TL/Plaxton President 6023 will, of course, be repainted into Go North East's corporate livery (thus bringing our totals to 108 vehicles in Go North East's corporate livery, with 95 presently remaining in "Northern" branding). Less obvious but easily worked out given the time of year; Deptford's Transbus MPD/Transbus Mini Pointer 561 (NK53 TLF) will be given a fresh coat of yellow, ahead of transfer to Hexham, where it will see allocation to service AD122.

(16 Mar 2015, 4:55 pm)Tommy_1581 wrote I hope that branding will be applied to 561, a board in the window doesn't quite work imo.

The AD122 used to be operated with a substantial amount of funding from various parties, but the majority of this funding was revoked last year, which is why Go North East now operate the service. It's operated at a low-cost, and Go North East will make very little (if any) profit from running the service. As such, I highly doubt any branding will be given to the two MPDs which will be allocated to the AD122, and the destination display will have to suffice on this occasion.

Why yellow out of interest? Never understood why there are 11 MPDs painted yellow with no branding?

It would be interesting to see if Henry Cooper purchase 8293 so they have spare parts for their vehicle (HC04 BBB).
