Seems GNE have won the 882 from Rural Link. Perhaps will be interworking with the 689 on Saturday

Probs to help the reliability of the service, ever since the change the X45/X30/X31 have been absolutely attriocus.

Its probs for the reliability of all them as there are plenty of Delayed operations on all of these, also the X5/X15 has changed it used to go via Castleside, but on that it says Shotley Bridge

X30/X31 would be better off standalone using 6338-40 with 6341-51 all moving to Riverside, meaning a common fleet on the X10 & X21 and not a particular batch of vehicles getting a daily hammering. 7x out of the 15x would also form the Tyne Valley Ten PVR on Sundays to reduce fuel costs over B9TLs.

StreetDecks:
- 6331-33 - Washington Spares
- 6356-63 - X45 & X71/X72
- 6364-74 - X1
- 6375 - Washington Spare
- 6376-77 - X45 & X71/X72

E400MMC:
- 6336-37 - Consett Spares
- 6338-40 - X30/X31
- 6341-53 - X10 & X21 (X21 PVR back to 9 with layover)
- 6354-55 - Riverside Spares

B5TL:
- 6308-14 - Either for 47 or 58 (only 6x needed if 47)
- 6333-34 - Consett Spares

Full repaints:
- 7x B5TL to corporate

Partial repaints:
- 11x E400MMC to charcoal XLines

Decals:
- 8x StreetDeck changed to 'generic' Consett to Newcastle graphics for both X45 and X71/X72

- 6352-55 changed to 'generic' express links across North East but still Purple.

Or cuts? - if word is true, GNE are making a massive loss.

I would expect more to appear on VOSA over the coming week.

RE: January 2023 changes
I had hoped the changes to the X45 would have increased reliability on an evening. As its a service used by my son and daughter frequently on an evening and there is only 1 per hour to Consett it is regularly 30 mins late, no doubt due to the impossible to keep to timetable.
Both buses on there tonight are again 30 mins late.
How are the public meant to have any confidence in bus travel when they aren't even sure a once an hour bus is going to turn up?!

Yeah its really bad. There are about 9 services (X45/47/X30/X31/56/X1/21/X21/78) Aswell as 8 & 6 sometimes which get hammered with delays constantly a daily occurance.

I know GNE can't help delays but take the X45 . Once an hour on an evening and a hard to stick to timetable even with no hold ups means the slightest hold up in traffic around the metrocentre or Newcastle on and evening and the driver loses any chance of making time up for the whole evening.  Even the supposed 6 min layover at Eldon Square isn't in reality if a bus can't stick to a timetable even with very little holdups!

It's not just the running times, it's if anything earlier in the evening happens plus suitable drivers / rotas to regulate things.

If a relief is due to happen before going into evening running times, then delays can be erradicated. But if not, then that's where things can get messy.

Take Arriva's 308 for example which is also a 1hr round trip like the X45. If the 20:14 ex Blyth (board finishes back at Blyth for 00:09) can get a replacement driver AND vehicle, then it can be regulated if the earlier journeys on the board are running late. But if no replacement vehicle readily available, then the relief driver would just have to pick up the late running vehicle.

On another note.......if the 12 is going to remain every 30 minutes (PVR 3), would it not make sense for.....

- 12 moves to Consett and interworks with the 6 again

- Daytime X30/X31 operations move to Riverside with changeovers in Dunston

Means all 20x E400MMC could then be moved to Riverside for X10/X21/X30/X31. Total PVR would be 16x with 2x 69/20/70 plate spares available and also 6336-37. X21 long layover also re-introduced.

Then for Consett with some interworking pattern changes......

- 47-X71-X71-X45 - PVR 5x
- 47-X72-X72-X45 - PVR 5x
- X45-47 - PVR 5x

Consett Decker Fleet (Newcastle routes):
- 6356-63 - 47/X45/X71/X72
- 6376-77 - 47/X45/X71/X72
- 6308-12 - 47/X45/X71/X72
- 6313-14 - Spare*
- 6334-35 - Spare*

* Spares if not needed on any of the Newcastle routes could then be used on the X5/X15.

Thats just going to have knock on cancellations for X71/X72 passengers with X45/47 being hammered with delays all the time, and at every 30 mins I don't think single deckers are good enough for the 12, the 6 is already rammed a lot of the time, that could do with deckers

If anything, the X71 & X72 would both have long layovers at Consett and Stanley retrospectively so plenty of recovery time for delays.

Given the nature of the 47 and X45 and serving the Metrocentre, delays at certain times are always going to be inevitable. GNE could throw every resource going and they'd still have delays at certain times.

The 6 definitely doesn't warrant double deckers though!

16: Shotley Bridge replacing 47
47: Consett Bus Station being replaced by 16
78: Possibly the X30 replacing the Consett to Stanley chunk and the 78 does a direct to Consett.
V5: Hownsgill Bus Depot replacing the 16 and X45 and no longer terminating at Crookhall
X15: According to Bustimes this route is being renumbered back to the 15 and will terminate at Consett so only 1 bus to Castleside every hour

X45: Terminating at Consett Bus Station again

Would it not be more logical having the X30 do a 'direct' route to Consett, seeing as it is meant to be express.

Don't trust Bustimes for registrations.

The X71 registration also includes the X72 - the route details on the registration are those of the X72 between Newcastle to Stanley.
The X30 was still down as going to Consett for quite some time on Bustimes - the registration still says Stanley.
With the X15, again it's a combined registration, and is still down as the X5/15 - Bustimes doesn't always update route numbers correctly
Presuming you're just guessing when it comes to the 78

Given that the route changes to the 16, 47, V5 are mentioned in the description, this would also be the case if the X71 and X30 were changing.

Not every stopping point is mentioned on registrations. The previous registration for July did not include Leadgate.

Better to fact check using VOSA directly next time before getting carried away on Bustimes.

No worries! You can use this website to find them as registered with the government: https://www.gov.uk/find-local-bus-services

Avoids hypothesising changes that aren't happening cause Bustimes isn't 100% correct
