Bus Events Elsewhere - Adrian - 13 May 2018

General thread for discussion of bus events elsewhere

I headed to Scarborough today for the 'Scarborough BusFest' today. The second consecutive year that I've attended, and I see it is only the third year they have been running the event. The BusFest utilises a decent size square car park, which is just up the bank adjacent from Peasholm Park.

I thoroughly enjoyed the day. There was again a decent turn out of preserved vehicles, and I managed to have a ride on ex-First Volvo Olympian/Alexander RL (R641 HYG), ex-EYMS Dennis MPD/Plaxton (W471 UAG) and two runs on Bristol LH6L/ECW (AFB 586V). I also managed a quick service bus trip on a Shoreline Suncruisers, ex-Lothian, Dennis Trident 2/Plaxton President (V522 ESC).

The event is really well organised in my opinion and there were a good number of stewards about for assistance. The site layout was OK, but it could have done with a bit more spacing in between some of the buses, and the actual location of the site is really good for photos. It is ideally placed to photograph vehicles entering and exiting the site. There were a number of trade stalls, and also an ice cream van for snacks, drinks, etc. The programme for the rally was reasonably priced at £3 and it provided a timetable for the bus services leaving the site, and what vehicle was allocated to each run. It is well worth purchasing the programme for this reason.

The only negative that I can think of, is that there was only a single current service bus, in the form of a Scarborough & District E200MMC. This was used as a rally control vehicle, therefore did not run out on the day, and was difficult to really have a look at. Despite growing up with Atlanteans, Nationals, Olympians, etc, I am just as interested in modern buses, so it was a bit disappointing not to see any. A Coastliner B5TL was present last year, and I enjoyed having a ride round the coast on that.

As a potential improvement, it would be nice if the bus routes officially stopped on the seafront. If you don't visit Scarborough much or at all, then it is worth having a walk up and down, and having a bit of the 'seaside resort' experience! Thoroughly enjoyed a quick visit to the arcades, and also the fantastic curry and chips purchased - just watch out for those seagulls!  Big Grin

I had intended to visit this event again today but a few issues resulted in me not attending today but I went last year and I felt pretty much the same and I agree about adding a extra stop on the seafront as there is a few chip shops on the seafront that I would choose to have lunch in or even just have a wander round that area.

Bus Events Elsewhere - Jimmi - 30 Apr 2019

Sad news for anyone who was thinking about going to the Scarborough BusFest rally on May 12th:

Important Announcement
Scarborough BusFest 2019

Due to the unforeseen unavailability of the North Bay former Swimming Pool Car Park we have no alternative but to cancel this year’s Rally and Running Day.

This decision has not been taken lightly and other sites have been considered as possible alternatives, but none were really suitable and others the organisers are not familiar with.

We were offered alternative dates, but these would have proved difficult to attract enough entrants and we the organisers had already made provision for the May weekend as we are not actually from Scarborough. We are a small bunch of enthusiasts who also have other commitments.

A number of other factors have also led to this decision including the decline in entries and some negative feedback through social media regarding past events.

We know this will come as a disappointment to many and we are disappointed as you are reading this, but feel it is the right thing to do.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank our regular Sponsors, Plaxton, North Bay Railway and Shoreline Suncruiser Buses.

We would also like to thank every vehicle owner that has attended over the last 3 years and making the event possible.

Over the three years we raised approx. £1800 for the Royal National Lifeboat Institution. Sadly, the biggest looser in this decision is the charity. If anyone reading wishes to donate to the RNLI the can do so by visiting rnli.org
.
Regards
WRBG

Shame. A really well organised event.

I was wondering if that would make it here!

I received a condensed version of the government advice, yesterday, which recommends washing hands, or at least using sanitiser gel, after using public transport. That goes without saying, anyhow, given the state of a lot of buses and many of their passengers.

All that advice is not to be sniffed at! *bdum tsh*

I did tweet this to GNE, the other day, but got no reply. Probably get gangrene if I scratched myself on that metalwork. 6164, if my dodgy memory serves me correctly. Taken before the usual characters boarded at plawsworth.
